Málaga opens the international circuit of the ICAN series on Sunday

The City Council of Malaga was the scene on Wednesday of the official presentation of the ICAN Málaga 2013. The first of the tests of the ICAN series will be played next Sunday April 7, on Half distance (1,9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21 km race on foot), and where the presence of some 800 triathletes is expected.

 

 

The Councilor for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Damián Caneda, recalled that "every day Málaga works to have more sporting events, and this time we have the honor of presenting a first level international triathlon test". In addition, the representative of the municipal institution said that "from the first moment we have believed in this competition and we trust that it has a vocation for continuity and will be established in our city for a long time".

 

For his part, the president of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation, José María Merchán, He thanked ICAN "for having trusted us and to have been in Andalusia for three years". An event that will also allow "adapting cities to these times of crisis. To speak of triathlon is to speak of a well-done sport and in clear growth ".

 

Finally, the head of ICAN, Sunil Bhardwaj, He stressed the importance of a test like this "in which the city of Malaga has been entrusted. We appreciate your effort and we work to promote Malaga internationally. " Sunil Bhardwaj referred to the importance of a competition that summarizes the concept of "sports tourism, where participants stay for several days in the destination city, accompanied by family and friends, which also means an important economic outlay in the area." All this translates into an impact on the close to two million euros in a single weekend.

 

The representative of the organization also recalled the international character of a test that will feature the presence of triathletes of more than twenty nationalities and some of the best athletes in the specialty. That without forgetting the many Malaga and Andalusians who will attend the competition this coming Sunday.
