The Mallorcan Mario Mola has hung the silver medal after making a formidable performance in the ITU Triathlon World Series, celebrated this Saturday in Kitzbühel.

One of the appointments that a priori was envisaged as one of the most arduous of this edition of the circuit, and that has offered us a real show, in an event that has combined a magnificent stage developing in the vicinity of the Austrian Alps, in a circuit of extreme hardness and with some triathletes willing to overcome and face an incredible challenge.

The competition has been contested in an atypical format, starting with a 750m swim across Lake Schwarzsee. A competition that began with the last minute loss of Jonathan Brownlee, the youngest of the British brothers (motivated by food poisoning). The swimming segment was dominated by the Slovak Varga, who was heading towards T1 together with the French Raphael and Henri Schoeman. The first Spaniard to complete the sector was Gómez Noya in seventh place, eight seconds behind the leader and followed by Alistair Brownlee, eighth. Mario Mola came out 18º from the water, 25 seconds from the lead, with Jesús Gomar and Óscar Vicente finishing the swim further behind.

This was followed by the impressive 11.55 km of cyclists, on one of the most demanding and technical routes on the World Series circuit; incorporating 867 m of climbing and a final kilometer with slopes ranging between 17 and 22%. At the beginning of it, Brownlee and Gómez Noya led the test in a group made up of 14 triathletes. However, shortly after starting the strong climb, the Briton escaped with Noya holding the pace of Brownlee in the first moments.

The Olympic champion in London 2012, imposed a very high pace and managed to overcome the Galician, and progressively was increasing its advantage throughout the rest of the sector. Gómez Noya continued fighting in the first places for a good part of the segment. In turn, a prominent Mario Mola pedaled at a very strong pace, advancing rivals to reach the T2 in second position.

Ahead and after exiting T2, Brownlee would continue to set a great pace over the 2km race on foot through the so-called Kitzbühel horn, finally claiming a comfortable victory in the Austrian town.

37 seconds behind the York triathlete, entered a spectacular Mario Mola, who after shining in the arduous cycling segment, achieved the best mark in the foot race sector, completing the 2.5 km section in 9:18. The bronze went to the former bronze medalist at the Olympics. from Athens, Sven Rieder; who took third place by crossing the finish line just three seconds ahead of fourth-placed South African Schoeman.

The Spaniard stated that "The race has gone phenomenal, the first kilometer on the bike is when there has been a cut in the race that has defined the positions. I have come out with the chip, and with the only idea of going up and pushing to the maximum, always regulating, knowing that the bike circuit was tough, but the race on foot ... has been criminal. " Mola was very satisfied with his performance "I am very happy with the result, the truth is that when you are on the starting pontoon, you only think about going out to win, but it has been really exciting to arrive in second position, I did not expect it."

The Mallorcan also had words of encouragement for Javier Gómez Noya, "The only thing that saddens me about the race has been Noya's result, he deserves to be ahead because of his level and the training he has done. Even so, I am sure that in Hamburg He will be able to overcome this position and achieve the result that he deserves. "

For its part, the Ferrol, which arrived depleted after a fall suffered a few days before the appointment, has achieved 13th place. Even so, Gómez Noya, did not want to excuse himself for the mishap suffered days ago, and declared after the test that "I have not found the strength, my legs did not respond to me ...", commenting that he hopes to regain his best form to face the next tests. Behind, the also Galician Óscar Vicente has come back in the last segment reaching the 16th position; while Jesús Gomar finished in 37th place.
