Mario Mola second in the Triathlon World Cup in Valencia

5 Spaniards have entered the Top 10

Today, within the framework of the Mediterranean Triathlon, the Triathlon World Cup in Valencia where high level triathletes have participated as the triple World Champion Mario Mola.

The test that has been disputed after the female test where the german Lisa Tertch has taken the victory and Noelia Juan has entered the final Top 10.

In this test in addition to Mola were the Spanish Antonio Serrat, David Castro, Genis Grau, Roberto Sánchez, Igor Bellido y Albert Gonzalez.

With a great race and a comeback in the foot race (23 places) Mario Mola has returned to perform at a high level in an ITU test that has been a few seconds from victory.

The swimming segment left us with a large group of more than 50 triathletes, who rolled in a compact way almost until the start of the last five kilometers of the run.

Only the breakaway of Brazilian Manoel Messias and Austrian Tjebbe Kaindl shortly before the end of the 20-kilometer bike ride changed the course of what seemed to be a massive grand finale.

In fact, the Brazilian went for the victory, as it was, since no one could catch him from behind.

The fight was for silver and bronze, and at the end of the first round the swords were still high.

Until Antonio Serrat, Mario Mola and the American Matthew McElroy jumped out of the chasing group, with three contenders for two medals.

Both Antonio and Mario tried to change the pace and leave the American, who held out until Mario Mola's final attack that allowed him to win the silver medal, supported by the Valencian public who once again enjoyed an international career.

The winner of the test has been Manoel Messias with a time of 50:14. Mola was second with 50:18 followed by Matthew McElroy - 50:25

As for the rest of the Spaniards, Antonio Serrat was fourth, David Castro it has been fifth, Alberto González sixth and  Roberto Sánchez Mantecón nineth.

IGor Bellido was 19th and Genis Grau, who punctured both of his wheels on the first lap of cycling, leaving him out of action almost from the start.
