Mario Mola and Jairo Ruiz distinguished with medals of the Royal Order of Sports Merit

This Tuesday the award ceremony of the Royal Order of Sports Merit was held at the Reina Sofía National Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid. An act in which Mario Mola and Jairo Ruiz have been awarded ROMD medals in recognition of their recent sporting successes, in an unforgettable 2016.

 

Last November 11 the State official newsletter announced the 21 resolution of October of 2016, of the Presidency of the Superior Council of Sports by which the medals and plaques of the Royal Order of Sports Merit are conferred in their different categories. These decorations of the Royal Order of Sports Merit in its different categories, Grand Cross, Plates and Medals of Gold, Silver and Bronze, are awarded to individuals or entities in recognition of their sporting successes or their contribution to the development of Spanish sport.

The Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, has presided over the presentation of the medals of the ROMD, in an act in which he was accompanied by the Minister of Justice, Rafael Catalá, and the President of the Superior Council of Sports and Chancellor of the Royal Order of Sports Merit, Miguel Cardenal, and representatives of the different sports federations, among others.

The 2016 triathlon world champion, Mario Mola has received the ROMD silver medal, in recognition of a prolific career, including numerous international podiums, in a brilliant progression in which the Spanish triathlete has been offering masterful sports performances at the highest level, culminating this season with the achievement of the world title .

At the same time, in the course of the act, the Olympic and Paralympic medalists of the Rio 2016 Games. Among them, Jairo Ruiz He has received the bronze medal of the ROMD. The athlete from Almeria has made a great season, in which he won the bronze medal in Rio de Janeiro in PT4, in the first incursion of paratriathlon in some JJ.PP.

The president of the Management Committee of the Spanish Federation of Triathlon (FETRI), José Hidalgo, wanted to congratulate both athletes, stating that these distinctions are "an acknowledgment to two of our best athletes, who are awarded a few dream seasons. Both Mario and Jairo represent the continuous evolution of sports, the desire for improvement, constant improvement, work and sacrifice. Values ​​all of them very linked to our sport; they are two exemplary sportsmen, to whom great trajectories await them. My congratulations to both for their commitment, dedication and especially for transmitting to all the illusion for the sport ".

During the ceremony were also awarded various athletes who have excelled throughout the year, clubs, technicians, referees, companies that have participated in the ADO and ADOP programs in this Olympic cycle, sports journalists, collaborating entities and institutions involved in the promotion and the development of Spanish sport.
