The Mediterranean Triathlon circuit starts this weekend in Alicante

Today at 17.00:XNUMX p.m. a new edition of Mediterranean Triathlon.

The circuit that runs through the 3 provincial capitals of the Valencian Community begins in Alicante, on a weekend that will also see the celebration of the Regional Olympic Triathlon Championship.

The 2 days will include tests in different distances, being Saturday the day of the shortest distances, supersprint y sprint; and Sunday the day set aside for the Olympic.

The day on Saturday, May 14 will begin at 8.15:XNUMX a.m. with the Qualifier for the European Youth Championship, a test attended by young triathletes from all over Spain with a registration that has reached 117 participants.

The scoring distance will be Supersprint and cadets and juniors participate, although only second-year cadets and juniors will score for the qualifier.

This test will give the places for the Spanish team of the Youth Olympic Festival of Banska Bystrica (Slovakia), and the European Youth Championship of La Baule (France).

They will follow this exit, those corresponding in distance superprint open and sprint. Specifically, the pairs modality, which will close the competition on Saturday.

Regional Olympic Triathlon Championship

On Sunday the queen distance of our sport will be the protagonist, as will the federated in the Valencian Community, who will come out ready to take a place on the podium of the Regional Olympic Triathlon Championship, 173 triathletes between men and women.

The race starting at Playa del Postiguet will later go through the streets of the city by bicycle, to finish with a running segment on the Paseo Marítimo that will lead them in the last meters to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento de Alicante.

A tour that leads the participant through different scenarios of the city. Héctor Arévalo and Yaiza Sáiz from the UA Triathlon are the current Regional Champions.

In the 2021 edition of the Championship, the podium was chosen in all its steps, both in the female and male categories, by the Alicante team that won the 6 medals in Vinaròs.

1.100 triathletes in the test

In total, the competition hosts 1.100 participants willing to enjoy the triathlon.

Let's remember that Mediterranean Triathlon is a circuit designed to promote our sport in all areas, with particular emphasis on women.

In this sense, about 26% of the enrollment is female. An important figure, even more so in this new round of MTRI, after the forced break suffered in 2020.

Once again we can talk about a popular triathlon festival in Alicante, with the premiere of many participants in our sport, and the return of many athletes to embark on a competition of these characteristics.
