Mónica Torres signs for the BH team

Mónica Torres is the latest addition to the group of triathletes sponsored by BH. Born in the Philippines 27 years ago, she has outstanding achievements such as fourth place in the World Ranking of the ITU World Duathlon Series, last year, or the victories in the Ironman 70.3 of his country in 2009 and 2010

The new triathlete sponsored by BH confesses to having practiced sports from a very young age, having gone through numerous disciplines (ballet, volleyball, karate, tennis) before launching into triathlon. She encouraged by friends and by the desire to excel began to dedicate himself professionally to this sport in 2006.

“Since I was younger, I have always loved to exercise. In college I had a lot of friends who played a lot of sports, and I admired them for their discipline and stamina. Triathlon seemed like an impossible sport for me, especially considering that I can barely swim 50 meters in a straight line! The feeling of being able to complete what once seemed like an impossible workout or distance gives me an amazing sense of satisfaction.. And that is what pushes me to continue until today, ”says Mónica.

Fourth in the Ranking of ITU World Duathlon Series

The BH-sponsored triathlete has since won numerous events: all the national duathlons in which she has participated since 2008, the White Rocks Long Distance Triathlon in Zambales in 2008 and the Ironman 70.3 Camsur in her country for two years in a row (2009 and 2010). She was also a silver medalist in the 2010 Port Dickson International Triathlon Malaysia.

A meteoric progression that led her to last year at the fourth place in the ITU World Duathlon Series Ranking of 2010 – her country's highest-ranked duathlete – and to be named a Philippine brand ambassador for K-Swiss. This season, Mónica Torres has already accumulated three first places on the podium, after her triumphs in the K-Swiss ITU Subic International Triathlon, the Men's Health All Terrain Race and the First QCTAA Fun Run.

The triathlete, who has a degree in Sports, resigned last year from competing this season with the national duathlon and triathlon team, to "only enjoy different races and events." The new addition to the family BH triathlon wants to combine their participation in different events of this sport with other disciplines like the Pharmaton MVP Unleashed Challenge, a 30-day cross-country event that ended last April.

The Aero, my half orange'

Mónica competes with the BH Aero, which she says "is very light and rolls smoothly". The union of the Manila-born triathlete and BH has created a successful marriage… “For me, BH means 'my half orange' - 'my Better Half ', in English -, Most triathletes feel they spend more time on their bikes than with their partners or loved ones. I have friends who even say that they are married to their bicycles, and call them their "girlfriends". For me, the good thing is that my husband is also a triathlete, so I spend a lot of time with both my BH and my "better half", he concludes.
