Movistar Madrid Half Marathon 2025: More than 20.000 registered
El Movistar Madrid Half Marathon 2025 is prepares to live a unique moment in his career.
As of January 10, 2025, the test has already registered more than 20.000 runners, when there are still almost three months to go until the big event on April 6.
With this number of participants, the event is not only consolidated as the most popular half marathon in the Community of Madrid, but also stands out at a national level for its multicultural atmosphere and the high presence of women, which aims to reach around 30% of the total.
A milestone of over 20.000 runners
Registrations have skyrocketed since the process was opened, partly because fans value the layout, which shows the capital's monumental areas.
Last year, 21.000 race numbers were available, but they were sold out in advance. For 2025, the organisation has increased the quota to 24.000, although everything indicates that this new number will be filled soon.
There are still 4.000 places available, so those who wish to join should make sure not to leave it to the last minute.
New date, limit of 24.000 bibs
The 2025 edition is scheduled for April 6, with a quota of 24.000 bibs.
This record figure consolidates the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon as one of the benchmark events in Spain. Many athletics clubs, as well as popular running groups, have included this event in their calendar of spring.
The increase in female participation is another of the event's great achievements. Every year, more women choose to run the 21 kilometres in Madrid, a sign that running, and in particular the half marathon distance, is becoming increasingly important among the female public.
Monumental route with minimal gradient
Many athletes are looking for good personal bests in the Madrid half marathon. Previously, it was thought that the topography of the capital made it difficult to achieve fast times.
However, the route of this race has been refined over the last few editions to include less gradient and, in this way, favour faster paces. In addition, the passage through emblematic places of the city provides a tourist spectacle and an extra motivation for the participants.
The records achieved by Ronald kiprotich in 2021 (59:38) and Winfridah Moraa Moseti in 2022 (1h07:22) are the best example that you can run at high speed in Madrid.
For this reason, the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon has been recognized with the “Road Race Label” by World Athletics, and is part of its official calendar of road races. In addition, the Madrid City Council declared it an “event of general interest for the city”, which reflects the relevance of the competition.
ProFuturo Race: sport and solidarity
In parallel to the half marathon, the ProFuturo Race, a 5-kilometre race, will also be held, which is also on the rise: it is approaching a thousand registered participants.
Its appeal lies in the combination of physical activity and social cause, as it supports the work of ProFuturo to bring educational innovation based on technology to schools in disadvantaged areas. Promoted by Fundación Telefónica and the “la Caixa” Foundation, this charity event has become an ideal option for those who want to start running a shorter distance or simply run for a good cause.
Official training sessions with Pablo Villalobos
In order to help runners arrive in the best shape, the Movistar Madrid Half Marathon 2025 repeats its official training sessions.
Led by Pablo Villalobos and the Marathon Sports Group, these sessions start on Saturday 11 January with a first contact and a light run to find out the level of the participants. From that point, the planning includes several key training sessions:
- January 19: strength work in the stands of the Tierno Galván.
- February 2: hills to build endurance.
- February 16: long series focused on competition pace.
- Winners will be announced in March: 15-16 kilometer shoot.
- Winners will be announced in March: split training with 1 kilometer intervals.
To participate in these sessions, it is necessary to be registered for the half marathon itself. The idea is that both those who are new to this distance and those with experience can get the most out of the preparation plan.
