More than 1.400 popular triathletes opened the MTRI Valencia
El Mediterranean Triathlon Valencia 2024 kicked off yesterday with a resounding success in participation, bringing together more than 1.400 triathletes in the first tests on Saturday.
The perfect environment for the competition thanks to favourable weather conditions allowed the thousands of triathletes who competed yesterday to enjoy a sunny day from dawn.
Victories in the supersprint and sprint categories
In the supersprint competition, the local triathlete Pedro Segrelles and the independent Sara Bonillo took victory in their respective categories. Segrelles completed the race in an impressive time of 33 minutes and 57 seconds, while Bonillo crossed the finish line in 39 minutes and 29 seconds.
In the sprint modality, the competition was equally intense, with the triathlete Sara Reimondo achieving a time of 1 hour and 9 minutes. For his part, Francisco Álvarez, from CDT Resistentia T3, completed the course in less than an hour, with a final time of 58 minutes and 54 seconds.
The day also stood out for the high participation in the couples category, with more than 200 male, female and mixed teams registered.
A festive atmosphere in the Marina of Valencia
The atmosphere in the competition area was unbeatable. From the esplanade next to the La Base Building, the distribution of bibs and triathlete bags brought together hundreds of participants from the morning.
In addition, the expo area offered a host of activities for family, friends and triathletes, highlighting the 360º platform for taking panoramic photos and the possibility of engraving the finisher medals, which many did not hesitate to personalize after crossing the finish line.
This year, the Mediterránea Triatlón Valencia has introduced innovations aimed at improving the experience of participants, especially in this area of animation, achieving a vibrant atmosphere from the start of the event.
International and female participation
The 2024 edition of the MTRI Valencia has attracted More than 2.000 triathletes from more than 20 countries, consolidating its international character.
Of this total, the 32% of the participants are women, reflecting the growing interest of female athletes in triathlon.
In addition, More than 40% of triathletes come from outside the Valencian Community, an indication of the attractiveness that this event generates in the national and international sports scene.
Sunday: Olympic distance and couples format
The day will continue tomorrow with the long-awaited Olympic distance event, one of the most demanding modalities of the Mediterranean Triathlon Valencia.
This year, as a novelty, the pairs format has been introduced in this distance, which promises to add additional excitement to the competition.
More than 600 triathletes are expected to take part, confirming the event's success in terms of participation.
David Cantero wins the World Cup
The day could not have ended in a better way for the Valencian public who saw their triathlete cross the finish line for the second consecutive time. David cantero, who is a member of the Alicante team, UA Triathlon, and who revalidated his 2023 title, totally alone since his second stint in T2.
The triathlete, aware of this, let himself be loved by his fans, who vibrated deafeningly in the final stretch.
Second place went to Australian Callum McClusky. Third place was up for grabs for the TriArmada and was up for grabs for the Spaniards, Sergio Baxter y Antonio Serrat in the middle of the home straight.
