Die an athlete when participating in a triathlon in Berga

Un sportsman that participated in the Sailfish Half Triathlon de Berga (Barcelona) died yesterday after feeling unwell while a test of swimming in the Baells reservoir, a spokesman for the City Council of this town has confirmed to Efe.

The deceased is Daniel Araguz Arroyo, 34 years old and a native of Barcelona, ​​who felt bad around 10:30 in the morning, when he was swimming in the swamp, as explained by a member of the organization. He has also pointed out that the athlete was rescued from the water and transferred to the Sant Bernabé de Berga hospital, where he arrived lifeless.

From the Medical Emergency System (SEM) they have specified that after becoming indisposed, the athlete was treated at first by the organization's medical services, who did everything possible to revive him. The triathlon, in which the Barcelona athlete Francesc Godoy and the Galician Saleta Castro, in the female category, is organized by the Dual Grups and the Berga Triathlon Club, together with the Berga City Council, and is an official test of the Catalan Triathlon Federation.

Participants in the Berga Sailfish Half Triathlon must swim 1,9 kilometers, bike 90 kilometers and walk 21 kilometers. In this year's competition, which was the second edition, 612 athletes participated.
