4 Slots for Kona in professionals
Lanzarote awarded two places for professional triathletes for the World Championship. That circumstance will change in this edition.
The organization of the race has doubled that figure and there will be four professional triathletes to earn their right to participate in the traditional Kona test
By age groups, IRONMAN Lanzarote will continue to grant 40 qualifying spots, ensuring at least one representative of each age group.
Changes in transitions
Another of the variations that IRONMAN Lanzarote incorporates arises in the section on transitions.
In this edition, there will be two transition areas (after the swimming circuit and after the cycling circuit), unlike previous editions, where there was only one transition. In the transition zones, the triathletes will change their clothes or can take water and sunscreen.
Changes in routes
The swimming route also presents changes compared to the last edition.
In this case, the IRONMAN Lanzarote started with a two-lap swimming test in Playa Grande, in Puerto del Carmen.
For the 2021 edition, the swimmers will complete the 3,8 kilometers distance in the same place, but the entire route will be concentrated in a single lap.
Rolling Start output
The start of this test will be historic, since for the first time IRONMAN Lanzarote will give its starting gun in the form of 'Rolling Start '.
This measure was scheduled to be incorporated in the 2020 edition and will be imposed for the first time this year.
The 'Rolling Start' o output in batches it is a way to protect less experienced swimmers.
The first to start will be the professional triathletes; then the other participants will start the race in age groups that will start every two minutes.
In this way, crowds and moments of tension for less experienced swimmers will be avoided.
First Military World Championship
Another novelty will be the dispute of the first Long Distance Triathlon Military World Championship, which will be integrated into the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote 2021.
The military triathletes will represent their respective nationalities and will have their own classification and a number of another color so that they can be distinguished from the rest of the participants.
