How is the 2024 IRONMAN Pro Series shaping up ahead of the Taupo World Championships?

La IRONMAN Pro Series 2024 come to a close this month with the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupo, New Zealand.

With a juicy bonus of $200,000 at stake, some of the best triathletes in the world will close the season in this event.

The title race in the men's and women's categories is very close and Taupo will be the final round where the leaders will try to secure their place at the top of the standings.

Female category

Jackie Hering y Kat matthews are in an exciting battle for first place in the women's standings.

American Hering leads the rankings with 18,093 points accumulated in five events, while Matthews of Great Britain follows closely behind with 17,836 points.

Hering could add a maximum of 703 more points to a total of 18,796 if he wins in New Zealand.

Maja Stage Nielsen is also close behind with 15,999 points, the focus is mainly on Matthews, who has the clearest chance of taking the top spot from Hering.

Matthews could take all the points she earned in New Zealand, as she has only scored points in four races, with three LD wins, so far so unless she doesn't finish the race in Taupo, it is very likely that she will take the final bonus.

Male category

In the men's category, the classification underwent changes last weekend during the IRONMAN 70.3 Western Australia.

Gregory barnaby, from Italy, managed to remove the IRONMAN world champion, Patrick Lange, from first place.

With 19,059 points in total, Barnaby leads over Lange (18,623 points) and Kristian Høgenhaug (18,472 points), both with a chance of taking the title in New Zealand.

Gregory barnaby could win the bonus if he takes the win or if he finishes ahead of Marquardt y Høgenhaug, provided that the difference with Høgenhaug is less than 4 minutes and 50 seconds.

Høgenhaug, on the other hand, needs to win the race and for Barnaby and Marquardt to finish a considerable distance behind. In Marquardt's case, to win the race and stay ahead of his competitors, all he needs to win the title is to win the race.

How the IRONMAN Pro Series Qualifiers Work

The IRONMAN Pro Series points system is based on race distance and the winning time.

A win in a middle distance event awards 2,500 points, while a full distance event awards 5,000 points.

Higher profile races, such as the IRONMAN World Championship, award a higher number of points, with 6,000 points going to the winner.
