Pablo Dapena wins Challenge Mogán and Anna Noguera is third

Pablo Dapena has achieved victory after reaching second place at the Challenge Roma weekend

The current champion of long distance triathlon in Spain, Pablo Dapena was held today, Saturday 21 April, as the winner of the third edition of the  Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria 2018 with a mark of 4 hours, 0 minutes and 25 seconds. The female category of professional triathletes dominated the Dutch Yvonne Van Vlerken with a mark time of 4 hours, 38 minutes and 41 seconds.

Dapena has improved the brand of last year's winner, the British Alistair Brownlee, which recorded a time of 2017:4:03 in 09. Thus, Dapena has cut a little less than 3 minutes with respect to the winner of the previous edition. Upon reaching the finish line, the Spaniard was greeted with applause by the massive public after having made his debut in this event, completing a 1,9-kilometer swimming course, 90 kilometers by bicycle and 21 kilometers of running.

After Dapena, a few 17 seconds, crossed the finish line with the German in second position Andi Böcherer with a time of 4: 00: 42 hours. The third place went to the current world champion in the Ironman of Hawaii of 2017, the German Patrick Lange, with a mark of 4 hours, 1 minute and 17 seconds.

About five minutes after the arrival of the winner, the Dutch Yvonne Van Vlerken whose logo is his suit and bicycle of a lively rose, got the second place of the professional category the Polish female Ewa Komander, passing through the goal with a time of 4: 43: 45 hours. Finally, the current Spanish long distance triathlon champion, Anna Noguera, got the third position with a mark of 4: 46: 21 hours.

Short triathlon

The men's podium of the short triathlon, a test that included 1,9 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running, was with the first place for the German Fabi Eisenlauer with a time of 2: 12: 09 hours, who He was also the first athlete to pass through the goal of the Gloria Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria 2018. He was followed in second place by the Belgian Tim Baelus with a 2 mark: 15: 44 hours and, thirdly, the canary Yeray Suárez Marrero crossed with a time of 2: 23: 41 hours.

In the women's category of the short triathlon the victory was for the Canarian Claudia Rodríguez Montesdeoca, with a time of 2: 43: 13 hours. In second place was the Swiss Stephanie Hess with a brand of 2: 46: 21 hours, and the third place went to the Spanish Raquel Quevedo Herrero with a time of 2: 47: 10 hours.

On the other hand, the champion of the middle distance of the age groups was the Italian Grabriele La Loggia, who completed the test with a time of 4: 24: 07 hours. He was followed in second position by Luis Hernández Cano with an 4 brand: 29: 34 hours and, third, Jose Antonio Arranz Caceres was classified with a 4 brand: 34: 00 hours.

The champion of the middle distance of the age groups was Julie Von Gruenigen with a time of 4: 59: 29 hours, followed by Katharina Voelkel with a mark of 5: 23: 49 hours and in third place Jane Hanson was classified with a 5 time: 30: 30 hours.

Finally, in the masculine relays the trio formed by David, Pedro and Mencey with a time of 4 were proclaimed victors: 50: 30 hours, followed in second place by the team of Eduardo, Christian and Aurelio with a mark of 5: 20: 22 hours.

In the category of mixed relay the winners were the trio formed by Flavia, Alejandro and Ruymán, who finished the race with a time of 4: 58: 39 hours. The second position went to the team of Eddy, Miguel and Jonay who passed through the goal after a time of 5: 12: 54 hours, followed in third place by the team formed by Estephania, Humberto and Pantaleon who registered an 5 brand: 39: 50 hours.

The event sponsors and organizers attended the race in Mogán; the mayor of the Gran Canaria town Onalia Bueno, along with several councilors from the government group, including the councilor for Sports, Luis Becerra, the vice president and councilor for Sports of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the president of the group Gloria Thalasso & Hotels, José María Mañaricúa, main sponsor of the event.

The event was also attended by the Canary Federation of Triathlon and other sponsors such as Ford Automotive Acosta, Puerto Rico SA, San Roque Hospitals and Coca-Cola, among others.

Amadores, international scene

The race has challenged the resistance of the participating 478 triathletes with a tour of the coast of Mogán in its middle distance, in which 223 runners participated who completed 1,9 kilometers of swimming, 90 kilometers on the bike and 21 kilometers of the race. In this modality, the Canary Islands Middle Distance Championship was held in parallel for age groups. The short distance, which featured 222 participants, had 1,9 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running. In addition, 34 people participated in the relay events.

Approximately one 40% of the total registered have been foreigners of 24 nationalities that will represent Germany, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Czech Republic, Colombia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, United States, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania , The Netherlands, Poland, United Kingdom, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and Uruguay.

The remaining 60% of the participants have composed it in its great majority -some more of 200 enrolled- residents in the province of Las Palmas, among which were found about twenty registered Mogán. Residents of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the rest of the Spanish territory also participated.
