Gold and Silver for our paratriathletes in the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Series

The paratriathletes have been in charge of closing the Grand Final of the Triathlon World Series in Auckland. A brilliant brooch for our athletes, with the achievement of the World Championship in the TRI-6 category by Susana Rodríguez and her guide Mayalen Noriega, and the runner-up of Daniel Molina in TRI-2.

The appointment has had a record number of participants, reaching a total of 109 paratriathletes who have taken the exit in the vicinity of Queens Wharf. For its part, the day has been marked by the cold and rain that have ravaged these days to the New Zealand city located on the North Island.

The low temperatures of the water have forced to modify the swimming segment, leaving its route in 300 m. Then they have completed three laps of 6.7 km on the bicycle by an urban circuit, to finish with 5 km of running.

The Galician Susana Rodríguez has risen to the top of the podium after a spectacular race, which has dominated since the early stages. Together with his guide Mayalen Noriega, they have stood out especially in the swimming section and in the cycling segment. The silver has been for the British Melissa Reid, and the bronze for the American Patricia Walsh.

For his part, in the male TRI-2 category, Daniel Molina has been awarded the silver medal. Molina has excelled especially in the swimming sector, which has obtained the best partial of its category. Ahead Stephane Bahler took the gold, while Matt Perkins signed the bronze. The other Spaniard in the competition, Ricardo Marín, was disqualified during the competition.

While in TRI-1 Francesc Sola achieved ninth place. Also, Raúl Zambarana reached a meritorious sixth place and the Extremadura Santos Caballero the tenth, both in the TRI-3 category. While Jairo Ruiz obtained the seventh place in the TRI-4 category.

A remarkable performance of all our athletes that culminates a dream weekend for our sport.

Previously throughout the day, the Age Group tests had been carried out. The event had a massive participation, and in the course of these three intense days have participated more than 3000 triathletes in all competitions (elite, sub23, junior, paratriathlon and age groups).
