Paris 2024: Paratriathlon events postponed to September 2
Following a meeting at 3:30am on 1 September with representatives of World Triathlon, Paris 2024 and the French authorities responsible for monitoring the Seine and weather conditions, the decision has been taken to postpone the Paratriathlon competitions due to take place today, 1 September.
Recent tests have shown a decline in the quality of the river water following the rains of the last two days.
As a result, the water quality at the competition venue on Sunday 1st September is not suitable for swimming and exceeds the threshold set by World Triathlon.
It has been decided schedule the 11 Paratriathlon events for September 2, subject to upcoming water events meeting World Triathlon's swimming thresholds.
A difficult decision
Paris 2024 and World Triathlon reiterate that their priority is the health of athletes and that, under these conditions, the Paratriathlon events cannot be held today.
The decision to postpone the trials is a blow to athletes who have been preparing for months to compete at the Paralympic Games. However, it is a necessary decision to protect the health of athletes and ensure that the events are held in safe conditions.
The decision to postpone the Paratriathlon events highlights the challenges facing Paralympic Games organisers in a changing environment such as that of Paris., where the quality of the Seine's water has been a constant concern.
Despite the measures taken to ensure the safety of the athletes, the weather conditions and rain have forced the organisers to make a difficult but necessary decision.

The postponement of the competition means a change of plans, but the athletes are determined to compete for Paralympic glory in Paris.
We hope that the Paratriathlon events can take place on 2 September in safe conditions and that the athletes can enjoy a clean and fair competition.
