Get ready for medium or long distance with the Swim GP crossing in Cascais

The coasts of Cascais are preparing to host a new edition of the  Swim Grand Prix, swimming trips that offer the opportunity to compete at distances ranging from 1 km to 20 km.

This event, which will be held from September 21 to 22, 2024, offers a unique opportunity for swimmers of all levels to test their abilities and experience the thrill of competing in a natural environment.

The Swim Grand Prix is especially attractive for triathletes preparing for a HOMBRE DE HIERRO or specifically the IRONMAN PORTUGAL, which will be played on October 19.

This year, one of the most notable new features is the inclusion of a 3.8 km closed circuit, replicating the IRONMAN route. This feature makes the event an ideal option for training under real competition conditions, providing a controlled and safe environment.

Cascais, history in open water swimming

Since 2012, this event has taken place at Praia da Ribeira, in the heart of Cascais Bay, offering athletes a unique experience in an epic setting.

Cascais, with its rich history in open water swimming, has witnessed numerous competitions since the first National Open Water Swimming Championships were held in Alfeite Beach Bay in October 1906.

This event was promoted by King D. Carlos, a fan of nautical sports, who offered prizes to all those who completed the test.

The perfect test if you compete in the IRONMAN Portugal

For those who have in mind to compete in the IRONMAN Portugal, the Swim GP is a perfect opportunity to carry out a preparation test for this test.

The sea conditions, the topography of the course and the competitive environment closely simulate what the athletes will face in the IRONMAN, allowing them to evaluate their performance, adjust strategies and refine their preparation for one of the most prestigious triathlons in Europe.
