Eight Spaniards compete in the European Championship sub23 of Velence in Hungary

The next Saturday 5 of August a new edition is disputed of the European Championship sub23 with the presence of eight Spanish triathletes.

 A competition that in recent years has been very well given to the Spanish with the two consecutive wins in 2015 and 2016 in Manchego David Castro   

The competition will be played as usual under sprint distance. The swimming consists of 750m, then the triathletes will give 4 laps to a very technical 5km circuit until completing the 20km to finish with a 5km run divided into two 2,5km laps. 

Male test

In the male competition the locals Bence Bicsák e István Király, together with the Austrian Kulas Pert They are candidates for the podium. The Spaniards must be fighting with them Antonio Serrat (dorsal nº1) and Roberto Sánchez who is in a great moment of form as demonstrated a few weeks ago proclaiming himself champion of Spain sub23.

Complete the Spanish national team Antonio Benito second a few weeks ago in the Altafulla European Cup y Kevin Viñuela bronze medal in the Spanish Acuatlon Championship.

Female test

As far as women's competition is concerned, a very open race is expected with several favorites like the Italian one Verena Steinhauser, the British Georgia Taylor-Brown or the Hungarian Zsanett Bragmayer.

Spain presents a very strong team, with four of the best sub23 of today that have category to be able to fight for the first positions: Camila Alonso, Inés Santiago, Carmen Gómez Cortés y Cecilia Santamaría

A tough competition due to the heat is expected with temperatures that clearly exceed the 35 degrees. The girls will be the first to compete, on Saturday at the 13: 00 and three hours later at the 17: 00 will be the boys' turn. On Sunday, the Mixed Relay Sub23 European Championship will be held.

We wanted to ask some of the Spanish participants to tell us individually how they face the competition:

Antonio Serrat: "This Saturday 5 day of August we run the European sub-23 in Hungary. An important test where we all want to play a good role. For my part I would like to make a very complete career being able to be competitive. It is a level test so you have to fight a lot for each position. So I hope to have good feelings to fight as much as possible and give everything to be satisfied with the race "

Cecilia Santamaría: "I am very happy to be able to represent Spain in my first European Under-23 Championship, and, knowing that the Olympic distance is almost new for me, I really want to face the triathlon and give my 100% to go "testing" in this type of evidence

Carmen Gómez: "It's my first year as sub 23 so my first European in this category and with a new distance that I'm still not used to. I do not arrive in my best form due to an injury, that's why I come to enjoy it, give my best and use it to gain experience for the next races. " 

Inés Santiago: "This year is my debut in the 23 Sub category. I do not have much experience in Olympic distance so it will be a competition with a plus of difficulty. Anyway, I arrived with much desire. I have been able to train consistently and without injuries in recent months, so I hope I can get a good result in Hungary. "

Camila Alonso: "After the fall injury did not come in my best physical or mental state, I'm struggling to get back into pace in training but it's still a competition that motivates me and I want to compete and do my best and enjoy the environment of the competition. " 

Roberto Sanchez Mantecon: "I am looking forward to this event with great enthusiasm, after having won the title of Spanish champion of the category, the training is going very well, I think it will be a very hard race because of the heat and we will have to fight it from start to finish"
