Alcobendas decides the last places for the 2025 Spanish Duathlon Championship
The third and final qualifier for the 2025 Spanish Duathlon Championship will take place this Sunday, March 2, in Alcobendas, bringing together the best national specialists in search of a ticket to the grand final in Cáceres.
A duathlon weekend in Alcobendas
Alcobendas, European City of Sport 2025, will be the epicentre of the national duathlon this weekend. After the qualifiers in Soria and Águilas, this will be the last chance for athletes to secure their place in the big event at the end of March.
The elite races will be the highlight of Sunday. The women's competition will start at 9:45 a.m. , while the men's race will begin at 11:00 a.m.
In total, nearly 500 duathletes will compete throughout the weekend in the various scheduled events.
Competition route and format
The circuit will maintain the classic sprint duathlon format:
- 5 km of foot race, with two laps inside the Parque de Andalucía.
- 20 km of cycling, in four laps around the main avenues of Alcobendas.
- Final 2,5 km of running race, again in the Andalusia Park.
The transition and finish area will be located inside the park, an area that has already hosted numerous national competitions.
The favourites for the title
In the women's category, María Varo is the clear favorite. The 2024 Spanish Duathlon Champion will represent Tri Infinity Móstoles , facing off against other top triathletes such as Sonia Bejarano (Cidade de Lugo Fluvial), Celia Robin (Triatlón Ecosport Alcobendas), Laura Durán , and Marta Cabello (both from Diablillos de Rivas).
In the men's competition, the first bib number will be for Diego Méntrida (Peñota Dental Alusigma), who will compete against top-level duathletes such as Nicolás Regidor (Marlins Triathlon Madrid), Miguel Blanco (Diablillos de Rivas), Jarno Pousada (Cidade de Lugo Fluvial) and Gorka Núñez (Peñota Dental Alusigma).
Duathlon for all ages and levels
The weekend will also host two other important events:
- Saturday March 1: Madrid Regional School Championship of Mixed Relay Duathlon, starting at 9 h.
- Sunday March 2: Business Race, from the 12 h, with a route of 5 km.
