Preview of IRONMAN Vitoria 2024

This year there will be close to 1.800 triathletes

El HOMBRE DE HIERRO Vitoria-Gasteiz will bring together nearly 1.800 triathletes this weekend in the capital of Álava.

This international competition, which is celebrating its fifth edition, will be the fourth full distance event of the IRONMAN Pro Series 2024 and will have a notable presence of professional athletes.

In this edition, athletes of 58 nationalities participate, 70% foreigners and 30% Spanish. Among the most represented countries are France, the United Kingdom and Belgium.

Some 80 professional triathletes will compete in this event, including Sam Laidlow, current IRONMAN world champion, Cameron Wurf y Alistair Brownlee in the men's category, already Gurutze Frades, winner in the 2023 edition, Kat matthews, runner-up of the 2022 IRONMAN World Cup, and Els Visser in the female category.

Favorites for victory

In the men's category, the world champion Sam Laidlow leads the lineup, accompanied by renowned athletes like the Polish robert wilkowiecki, the Danish Kristian Hogenhaug or the Spanish Antonio Benito Lopez.

Other triathletes to keep in mind will be David McNamee, based in Girona, and Mathias Petersen from Denmark, both with outstanding performances in previous seasons.

In the female category, Gurutze Frades of Spain will defend its title, with Kat matthews, recent winner of IRONMAN Texas, leading a competitive group.

Other contenders to watch will be Els Visser, who comes from a podium in Challenge Roth, already the German one Daniela Bleymehl, third in the IRONMAN European Championship in Hamburg.

IRONMAN Pro Race Series

The IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz 2024 is part of the prestigious IRONMAN Pro Race Series, which includes 20 races in 9 different countries.

 This year, Vitoria-Gasteiz is one of the only European destinations in the series, being the eleventh race and fourth long-distance triathlon in the series.

A circuit that attracts professional triathletes who will compete for a total prize of almost 6 million dollars for the 2024 season.

Competition Start Times

The IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz will be held on Sunday, July 14.

The men's category will start at 08:00 local time, while the women's category will start seven minutes later, at 08:07.

Media coverage of IRONMAN Vitoria-Gasteiz 2024 will be extensive, with live broadcasts via DAZN for Spain, on the website IRONMAN Pro Series, L'Équipe in France and Outside + in the United States and Canada.
