The preview of the WTCS Abu Dhabi 2025

El February 15 will mark the beginning of the 2025 Triathlon World Series with the long-awaited test in Abu Dhabi.
The city dresses up to welcome several of the best professional triathletes ready to start the year off strong.
This time, the stage is a completely new circuit in Hudayriat Island, where a long distance race will take place sprint.
Notable absences
The first date of WTCS calendar arrives with important absences, especially in the women's category.
The last world champions, Cassandre Beaugrand y Beth Potter, have decided not to compete, which further widens the range of candidates for the podium.
Something similar happens in the men's category with the absence of Alex Yee, the current world champion, who postpones his participation due to his bet on London marathon.
Wilde, with number 1
In the men's competition, all eyes are on Hayden Wilde.
The New Zealander finished 2024 by winning the Torremolinos Grand Final and is now looking to start 2025 in top form.
His aggressive style in all three segments – with an efficient swim, a fast bike ride and a scary run – make him the favourite. The sprint distance also suits him perfectly, and he has made it clear that his aim is to continue improving over the next four years, with one eye on Los Angeles 2028.
Other candidates in the race
Basque Vilaça (Portugal) wants to break its bad streak and finally get its first gold in the World Series and matt hauser (Australia) has already tasted glory in two previous seasons.
Brazilians Miguel Hidalgo y Manoel Messias They could also do something in Abu Dhabi.
As for the Spanish representation we find Roberto Sánchez, Antonio Serrat , David cantero, current under-23 champion, and Alberto González, who stands out for his explosiveness in running.
Eye also to Morgan Pearson from the United States, who arrives after signing a very fast split in the half marathon.
The open women's category
This year, the women's race promises to be very exciting due to the absence of the last world champions.
At the starting line, the German Lisa Tertsch, Olympic gold medalist in Tokyo, will wear number #1.
After taking her first Series win in Weihai in 2024, the German is looking to start 2025 on the back of a hat-trick.
Among the rivals who aspire to surprise her we find Leonie Periault and Laura Lindemann, both with victories in the Series.
At the same time, Gwen Jorgensen, two-time world champion and gold medalist in Rio 2016, returns with a desire to stand out in the WTCS after achieving good results in World Cups in 2024.
Taylor Spivey (USA), another top performer in the world, is still chasing her first Series win after several podium finishes. Will Abu Dhabi be the place where she finally gets it?
