Alejandro Santamaría and Brooke Brown winners of the iron triathlon of Vitoria

Unbeatable day lived this weekend in Vitoria where more than 1.600 triathletes They have met to participate in the distance tests HALF and IRON.

 

After the victory of the Spanish Joan Ruvireta and the American Chelsea Burns in the distance HALF, the triathletes of the IRON distance were still fighting the victory. At noon the streets were crowded with people to follow the reign that has consisted of 3,8 km of swimming followed by 180 km of cycling to finish with 42 km of race on foot, through the streets of the city of Vitoria.

 

The Portuguese Paulo Antunes he was the first to leave the water with almost 2 minutes of advantage over the local Roberto Corujo. Sergio Marqués y Moving away Santamaría They came out with almost 5 minutes apart.

 

In the first part of the cycling sector Paulo Antunes led the race with 2 minutes ahead Roberto Corujowhile behind Alejandro Santamaría little by little he was climbing positions until he managed to take the lead along with Iñaki Gabarain  with which he arrived at the T2. Already in foot race Alejandro Santamaría was making a difference from the beginning getting a final time of 8: 28: 58 in goal, outstripping in more than 14 minutes to  Sergio Marqués (8:43:05) who also played his trick, going back in the race to second positionThe third place was for Egoitz Zalakain (8: 47: 26), being also spectacular the race of the local Roberto Corujo that was at the doors of the podium.

In the female category the favorite Brooke Brown was the first to get out of the water followed by Vanessa Pereira with Anais Tommy-Martin more than 2 minutes apart and  Arrate Mintegui to 4 minutes from the head of the race.

 

In the 180 km of cycling the Canadian Brooke achieved 11 minutes of advantage over Vanessa Pereira and in third position she left the bike Anäis Tommy who arrived at 17 minutes from the head of the race.

 

Already in the walking segment, the Canadian Brooke managed to manage her advantage until the end, although Anäis Tommy was cutting time to the Portuguese triathlete Vanessa Pereira who finally had to retire due to stomach pains. Brooke Brown got the victory with a time of 9:51:01, followed by Anais Tommy (10:07:47) and Arrate Mintegui 10:24:35

 

Brooke Brooke was enthusiastic about the circuit "It was tough, but fun especially in the cycling segment, with so many ups and downs, a good combination.
