The best triathletes in the world will return to Ibiza in 2024 with the PTO Eruopean Open

The island of Ibiza, world-renowned for its paradisiacal beaches and vibrant nightlife, is preparing to add another title to its renown: the epicenter of world triathlon.  

El European PTO Tour Open will return to its shores on September 28 and 29, 2024, where for the first time tests for Age Groups will be included. 

The announcement, made at the prestigious World Travel Market in London, has not only put Ibiza in the spotlight of the international triathletic community, but has also opened the doors for sports enthusiasts to register for this world-class event.  

Vicente Marí, president of the Consell Insular d'Eivissa, highlighted the positive impact that events like this have on the image and economy of the island: “LThe PTO trial that came to our island in early May of this year helped create the best start to a summer season in our history." 

El PTO European Open It's not just a competition; It is a celebration of sport that, in its 2023 edition, saw titans such as Jan Frodeno, Alistair Brownlee, and Kristrian Blummenfelt, with Max neumann taking victory in a memorable contest.  

In the female category, Anne Haug was imposed on Lucy Charles-Barclay, the new IRONMAN world champion, in a demonstration of strength and endurance. 

Sam Renouf, PTO CEO, explained the organization's vision: “Our strategy is clear, we want the best to compete in emblematic places and broadcast it to a global audience."  

This vision aligns with that of José Hidalgo, president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, who expressed his satisfaction with the renewal of the agreement with PTO and the celebration of their races in Ibiza. 

The route of the 2023 edition, which took place on Figueretas beach and culminated in the World Heritage area of ​​Ibiza city, is just a prelude to what is to come.  

Although the 2024 route has yet to be announced, it is expected to maintain the essence that has made it so special. 

Competition for Age Groups 

In addition to the professional races, the event will also feature the PTO 100km European Open for Age Groups, following a model similar to that successfully deployed by the PTO and USA Triathlon in Milwaukee in August 2023.  

This format allows triathletes of different ages and abilities to compete in a high-level competition, promoting participation and sportsmanship in an international competition framework.

From today, registrations for the PTO European Open Ibiza are open, inviting triathletes from all corners of the world to be part of this unique experience.  

Age Groups will have the opportunity to compete on the same stage as the professionals, in an event that promises to be as challenging as it is exciting.
