More than 1.700 duathletes will take Avilés this weekend

Avilés presents a 2022 Duathlon Spanish Championship with a record number of participants 

El Spanish Duathlon Championship returns to Avilés next April 23 and 24, with record numbers of participation in the event.

More than 1.700 athletes will compete in the city, surpassing the records of previous years even despite competing in one less category, that of Standard Age Groups, which is held in another event on the calendar of the Spanish Triathlon Federation.

 The competitions will be held on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24, returning with the finish line and elite transition to the Plaza de España, where different welcome activities for athletes will be held from Friday.

1.500 participants come from outside Asturias

91% of the participants in the Spanish Duathlon Championship Avilés 2022 will come from outside Asturias, exceeding 1500 athletes.

The autonomous communities with the most participants in Avilés are the Community of Madrid, with more than three hundred duathletes, the Valencian Community and Galicia, with more than 200, or Castilla y León and Andalucía, which, like Asturias, exceed a hundred federated athletes with registration confirmed in Avilés.

The Spanish Triathlon Federation will present in Avilés new services for participating athletes, and a spectacular competition area in the return of the tests to the historic center, as well as its sustainability plan in competitions.

 The event was presented at the Avilés City Hall, with the participation of Mariví Monteserín, Mayor of Avilés; Graciela Blanco, Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, and Jorge García, Director of Competitions of the Spanish Triathlon Federation.

Avilés Duathlon competition program 2022 

The competitions, starting and finishing in the Plaza de España after finishing the segments of the foot race through the historic center and Ferrera park, and the cycling segments around the estuary, will be held during the Saturday and Sunday morning. 

 El running circuit It will start and end in the Plaza de España, going through the streets Rivero and Galiana and crossing the Ferrera park.

El transition area in the cadet, youth and junior competitions, in addition to the Sprint Age Groups, on Saturday, it will be located at the Niemeyer Center, while the Paratriathlon and Elite categories, on Sunday, will have the transition in the Plaza de España.

 El cycling tour The right bank of the Avilés estuary will be the protagonist in the competitions on Saturday, and it will use both banks on Sunday, with the cycle race passing through the Parque del Muelle or Calle de la Cámara in the center of the city.

Saturday

 The cadet, youth and junior categories will compete in SuperSprint distances and three eliminatory series by category and gender of fifty athletes, as qualifiers for the finals of each category that will take place during the afternoon. The preliminary series will start at ten in the morning and will last until noon.

Between 15:16 p.m. and 35:17 p.m. The starts of the Finals of each category will be given, and at 30:XNUMX p.m. Saturday will take place the championship for Age Groups.

The award ceremonies are scheduled for 17:45 p.m. for the cadet, youth and junior categories, and at 20:XNUMX p.m. for Age Groups.

Sunday

 El Sunday April 24 The Paratriathlon competitions will take place, starting at 8:30 a.m., and the Women's Elite races, at 11:15 a.m., and the Men's Elite, at 13:30 p.m.

 At the end of the men's event, the last awards ceremony of the championships will be held on the stage podium located in the Plaza de España, from which the program that FETRI from the headquarters of its national and international competitions for the Federation's YouTube and Twitch channels.

Also on Friday, a talk with international paratriathletes and students from local schools will take place at the Avilés House of Culture, and the symbolic planting of a tree will be carried out, continuing the ecological awareness work carried out by Coca Cola that had already begun in the last Avilés Duathlon World Championship 2021.
