Straight line for the Bilbao Triathlon

The test, which on its fifth anniversary has already established itself as one of the most outstanding in the calendar

 

 

Gustavo Rodríguez, winner at 2014, leads a powerful list of participants in which Aimar Agirresarobe, BT champion in 2013, Uxío Abuín, European Cup winner, and the 23 sub world champion Roger Serrano, plus, Gómez Cubero, Ouilleres, Simoncini, Schmid, Paredes, Mintegui o Estefania Gómez, among more than half a thousand participants.

 The V. edition of the Bilbao Triathlon, which will be held on Saturday 30 May in the heart of the town, was presented at the city of Bilbao in an act that has led Sabin Anuzita, councilor of the Area of ​​Basque, Youth and Sports of the Consistory, along with Alberto Larrucea and Joel Sepúlveda, representatives of Innevento Sports, entity organizing the event.

The test, which on its fifth anniversary has already established itself as one of the most prominent in the calendar, will begin the 13:30 hours in front of the town hall of Bilbao (Pio Baroja dock) with the spectacular image of more than half a thousand sportsmen swimming in an estuary decorated for the occasion.

The margins of the Nervión will become the meeting point to give the departure signal to a festive day in the city. As has happened in past editions, it is expected that several thousand people form a human corridor on the banks of the estuary to encourage triathletes in the first sector.

El Arenal will once again be the place chosen as the center of operations for both athletes and fans. At that point will be located the boxes and the goal, which the first participants will arrive from the 16: 30 hours approximately.

NEW CIRCUIT CYCLIST, MORE URBAN AND SPECTACULAR

The bicycle path through which the Bilbao Triathlon will run is the main novelty of the event on its fifth anniversary. Without losing the two ascents of the Vivero ramps as a sign of identity, the circuit will take two steps through the center of Bilbao, with what that means so that the triathletes can experience the atmosphere that will be that day in the city and fans will see shoot the competition in the very heart of Bilbao.

Thus, the competition will start at the 13: 30 in the female category and the 13: 35 in the men's category with the triathletes in the water at the pier of Pio Baroja (in front of the Town Hall) to complete the 1.900 meters of the first segment. The departure will be in the direction of the Guggenheim Museum, where they will turn around and go up the Nervión River to the Arenal, where they will make the first transition. See attached map.

The bicycle sector will start in the Arenal and will take the athletes to take two laps a demanding route of 95 kilometers in total (1.100 meters of accumulated altitude) that will leave in the direction of the Etxebarria Park towards Galdakao, where the Vivero will be promoted in two occasions The first of the passes through Bilbao will enter through the tunnels of Enekuri, Deusto and the tunnels of La Salve, to continue along Avda. Zumalakarregi, while the second of them will pass through Botika Vieja and Campo Volantín to El Arenal. See attached map.

In the last sector, participants will have to walk three laps on a full circuit along the banks of the estuary, leaving and returning to Arenal, where the finish line will be located, passing through emblematic places such as the Guggenheim Museum, the Euskalduna Palace or the Iberdrola Tower. 

PARTICIPATION. MORE OPEN AND EQUALIZE THAN EVER.

The poster of participants is once again one of the strengths of the Bilbao Triathlon, both in its elite and at the popular level. In this fifth edition will be more than half a thousand athletes who take the exit to overcome the 1,9 km. of swimming, 95 of bicycle and 21 of running race that turns them into 'finishers'

In the male category, the presence of the winners of the two previous editions stands out, Gustavo Rodríguez y Aimar Agirresarobe, that this past weekend finished 1ª and 3ª respectively in the Half of Pamplona. Both the Galician and the Tolosarra know what it is to raise their arms in the goal of the Arenal and bet to live again those sensations.

We can not forget two young people who have been stomping as they are Uxío Abuín y Roger Serrano Abuín debuted in Bilbao after winning last year in Zarautz, is the current champion of Spain and two weeks ago he took a test of the European Cup in Madrid. Serrano, on the other hand, is the current Cross Sub 23 Triathlon World Champion.

Among the 'outsiders' there are classic and renowned participants such as Fernando Gómez Cubero, 2º in 2012 and 2013, in addition to others like Iván Gil (7º in 2014), Diego Paredes (8º), Daniel Múgica (10º) or José Almagro (12º), who already know what it is to do positions of honor in the appointment Bilbao.

The foreign representation is led by the Gaul Gwenael Ouilleres, 5º last year in Bilbao and with several 'top 10' in Abu Dhabi, Lanzarote or Barcelona, ​​German Stefan Schmid, 2º in Ironman Wisconsin (2011) and 3º in Brazil (2013), and Italian Leonardo Simoncini, 'Top 10' in Nice and winner of the Ironman of Elba in 2013.

In the female category, the Cantabrian Estefanía Gómez, 2ª in 2013 and international with the Spanish team, with which he managed to finish in tenth place in the Long Distance World Championship in Vitoria (2012), in addition to the Gasteiz player. Arrate Mintegui, current runner-up of Euskadi de Media Distancia and champion of Euskadi de Larga Distancia.
