Routier and Murua get a Top 20 in the European Triathlon Championship

EL Elite European Women's Triathlon Championship celebrated this Friday 14 of June in the Turkish town of Alanya, offered a good display of our representatives, with Carolina Routiery Ainhoa ​​Murua ending in the Top-20.

 

 

Routier was the first to complete the 1.5 km swimming, once again demonstrating its enormous power in this segment. Then the Dutch Rachel Klamer and the Italian Bertto, Melanie Hauss, Abrosima, Anja Knapp and Vicky Holland were the next to get out of the water.

 

After the start of the first transition, and throughout the six laps of the cycling route, the banyolina has remained in the leading group, in a squad formed by 18 triathletes that included, among others, Hauss, Betto, Mazzetti, Knapp, Jessica Harrison and Holland.

 

For his part, Ainhoa ​​Murua led, along with Robisch and Charayon, the pursuing squad that tried to cut distances during the 40 km of the sector. While Tamara Gómez, from Elche, lagged further behind. However, the good work and strong rhythm set by the leading group allowed to increase the advantage. In this way, the front squad reached T2 with a difference of almost a minute and a half with respect to the first chasing block.

 

Germany's Knapp was the first to emerge from the transition, closely followed by Harrison, Verstuyft, Mazzetti and Frintova and they were preparing to cover the final 10 km of the race on foot. In the opening bars of the first of the four laps, Czech Frintova and Harrison broke away from the rest, gaining a 9-second lead. Behind, Stepanenko, Klamer, Holland, Mazzetti and Verstufyt were fighting for the bronze medal.

 

The sector was very disputed, with the first triathletes running at a very high level in a tough battle for medals. With one lap to go, five triathletes were fighting for the podium places, including Frintova, Mazzetti, Klamer, Stepanenko and Holland. In a vibrant final sprint, Klamer exceeded Frintova y The Netherlands to finish up with the gold. Just two seconds from the Dutch, Holland took the money y Frintova was done with the medal of bronze.

 

As long as Carolina Routier entered into a meritorious 18ª plaza, followed by Ainhoa ​​Murua en 20º place y Tamara Gómez arrived at 29ª position. Routier stayed in the leading group for much of the competition, with Murua fighting with a lot of pride in the pursuer group for trying to close the gap.

 

While in the junior women's event, Britain's Georgia Taylor-Brown achieved victory for the second year in a row. The Teutonic Laura Lindemann and the Italian Angelica Olmo, completed the podium in second and third position respectively. For her part, Laura Gómez managed to climb to 27th place and Diana Cotón finished in 46th place. Both Spanish women came out of the water very far behind after completing the 750m swim. Later, they have gone to more and Gómez recovered several positions during the next two segments.

 

Tomorrow will be the turn for the sprint distance age groups (from the 06: 00, Spanish time), followed by the male junior category (11: 00 hours). While the male elite (14: 00 hours) will be responsible for closing the day on Saturday.
