Rubén Cuéllar and María Pujol win the Seville Triathlon
The Granada, who was not among the favorites, takes the victory while Maria Pujol repeated victory to their countrymen
The XXII Sanitas Triathlon of Seville®, third test of the Europa FM Circuit, already has an owner. Against all odds, Rubén Cuéllar he has risen with the victory of the queen race, the Olympic distance, for the first time in his short career. The granadino happens, in this way, to Camilo Puertas.
The triathlete from the Ondarreta Triathlon Club had to overcome a disadvantage when leaving the Guadalquivir River, after swimming 1.500 meters. There he was two minutes behind the first to finish the swim section, the Cadiz native and great water specialist Germán Rodríguez. It was in the bike where Rubén pushed hard to catch up with the leading group and make the best partial. In the second transition he had already cut a minute off the leader of the race, who was still Rodríguez. The last section, 10 kilometers of running, served to demonstrate that Cuéllar is unstoppable when he puts his foot down. slippers. And he crossed the finish line with a time of 1h55'19'', with a 9 second advantage over Sergio Fernández, from Montilla-Córdoba Triathlon. The podium was completed by Carlos Morales, from ADSevilla.
For Rubén Cuéllar it is his first great victory in the specialty, which shows his youth and that is a triathlete with a lot of potential: "When I was about to reach the finish line I did not believe it, and I trained a lot. I looked strong, but not so much, because here there are rivals of great level. He came to give everything, but he did not think about victory. Not once have I looked back, it's the last thing you have to do in a race. I went to mine, I knew the strength I had and I have been dosing them. No one on the bike has collaborated, all reserving forces for the section on foot. In the end I escaped on the last lap because I was strong. Now people are going to respect me more".
In the female category, the triumph has been won by a great acquaintance of the Sevillian public, María Pujol. I already knew what it was like to get the victory in the Seville Triathlon in previous years. The triathlete of the Simón Verde-Doc 2001 dominated the race from start to finish: he was the leader of the water, he put the direct on the bike next to Irene Alcaide, and in the race on foot he stood alone. He raised his arms with a time of 2h09'16 '', two and a half minutes ahead of Rocío Molas, of Isbilya-Sloppy Joe's, finally second; and of Alcaide, of the Utrera Aquatic CD.
María Pujol took 4 years without competing in the Seville Triathlon, since the test matched others that he had marked on his calendarTI was looking forward to winning this test again. Every day it costs more to train, take time and these triumphs give me motivation. On the bicycle I had problems, because the saddle has been completely lowered. But I tried not to think about it and concentrate on the power I had to develop. I have had to stand more than adequate, but I have not wasted any time. The race on foot has been quiet, for the rent I already had. I have enjoyed it a lot, because many people have come to cheer me up and not every day you can see them".
The next triathlon event in the city will be the next September 16 with the celebration of the Triathlon Port of Seville.
