Press Conference Prior to Challenge Vitoria

The Villasuso Palace of Vitoria - Gasteiz yesterday hosted the press conference prior to the first edition of Challenge Vitoria.

 

 

In it pudismoscount with the presence of Alejandro Santamaría, international elite, the Portuguese triathlete Pedro Gomes y Diego Velazquez, current Champion of the World of Long Distance TRI3, title that got in this same city the past 2012. In the female category Gurutze Frades, current champion of Spain of Long Distance Triathlon leaves as one of the great favorites to the podium together with the English Yvette Grice and the young local triathlete Arrate Mintegui.

 

Before taking the step to the press conference itself, from the organization of the test, the participants were asked to minute of silence as a show of solidarity for the more than 80 victims of the tragic railway accident that occurred this week in Santiago de Compostela, which ended with an emotional applause, and then continued with the word to the summoned triathletes, where all of them agreed to highlight the spectacularity of its circuits designed by Eneko Llanos, as well as the warmth of the public that lives and turns with the Triathlon.

 

Alejandro Santamaría, triathlete with 20 years of experience in competition was excited to be this year in Challenge Vitoria "I always say it, Challenge Roth is the most spectacular event I've ever competed in, with a great atmosphere where emotion accompanies you from beginning to end, I know that Vitoria will feel the same, the circuits are spectacular and the audience feels and vibrates with the Triathlon "

 

Pedro Gomes will compete this year for the third time in the city "From the 2009 that I came for the first time, I always say: This year I have to go back. I love the atmosphere that lives in Vitoria and I know that this 2013 will be even better, on the one hand to be Challenge and for the grand finale that awaits us in the Plaza de España. Vitoria is an exciting city to host an event of this caliber "

 

Diego Velázquez, the first triathlete in the world to finish an Ironman with Multiple Sclerosis, is presented today as the clear image of the values ​​of the Challenge brand: Challenge, Determination and ability to Overcome. Diego will compete for the third year on this circuit  “When I competed in 2009 and as soon as I finished the race, I said to myself: here I have to compete every year. Due to the outbreaks of my disease there are years in which it has not been possible but in 2012 I was well, and I was able to return. It was really exciting to get this title in Vitoria, on a spectacular circuit, with a luxurious organization and in a city so dedicated to triathlon. I'm really happy to be back here one more year ”

 

According to press statements made by Gurutze Frades, Spain's long distance triathlon champion and who regularly conducts training in the area "Compete at home always like, the site is very beautiful, the swamp with clean waters to swim, the bike circuit somewhat demanding in which you have to reserve a bit for the spectacular foot race that awaits us. I feel strong, but also nervous about the race, I have trained and what I expect from the race is that when I reach the finish line I know I have given everything but above all I have known how to enjoy this great race "

 

As a local triathlete we could count on the young Arrate Mintegui “I'm happy to be racing in Vitoria, of course that on the one hand maybe I can get a little more nervous racing at home, but I know that the animation in the streets is going to be incredible. I will try to run for sensations, but above all enjoying the city to the fullest and trying to do my best ”

 

Yvette Grice, one of the great favorites to the podium, told us "I have very good feelings in Vitoria, I have recognized the circuit of swimming and cycling, and the truth that I liked a lot. I think Vitoria is a good place to come and compete while sightseeing, for its landscapes and for the spectacular city that welcomes it. I do not know what will happen in the race, I will do my best, what if I am sure is that I will enjoy this tour "

 

The first edition of Challenge Vitoria will begin next Sunday, July 28 at 08:00, with the arrival of the first triathlete at the finish line scheduled after 16:00 p.m.
