The Spanish Santos Caballero, among those chosen to form the ITU Athletes Committee

The Spanish disabled triathlete Santos Caballero González has been one of the eight chosen to form the Athletes Committee of the International Triathlon Federation (ITU), which will be composed of ten representatives from three different continents, with the function of representing their colleagues and serve as a union between athletes and ITU and Executive Board staff

At the end of the 25º Congress of the ITU celebrated this Wednesday, the organism has announced the name of the eight athletes belonging to seven countries that will make up the Athletes Committee. Frenchwoman Jessica Harrison and New Zealander Kris Gemmell have been re-elected for another two-year term. In addition, for the first time it has included two disabled triathletes, the Spanish Santos Caballero González and the British Claire Cunningham.

The list is completed by the Japanese Ai Ueda, the German Gregor Bucholz, the American Steve Sexton and the French Laurent Vidal. The Spanish Marisol Casado, president of the ITU and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was convinced that all of them will do a good job in the Committee.

“The Athletes Committee is an integral part of our organization. Their representation is vital to the athlete and needs to remain the main focus of the ITU. I am confident that the chosen athletes will do a spectacular job in their new roles”, said Casado.
