Sergio Lorenzo wins the Duathlon of Seville
Breaks the hegemony of Emilio Martín, 3 times winner of this duathlon
One spring afternoon I witnessed the departure in the Parque del Alamillo of the more than 700 registered duathletes. After the first 5000 meters on the run, Rubén Álvarez made good his good performances as an athlete to reach the transition in first place.
He barely had a second on his teammate Sergio Lorenzo, who was already stomping. Samer Ali-Saad and Emilio Martin came slightly more off the hook.
That was the key to the race, since the Huelva native, when he was about to start pedaling, made a mistake and forgot to put on his shoes. slippers de bikeHe had to backtrack to recover them and lost valuable time. Despite this, a great comeback during the 20 kilometres on the bike allowed him to get back to almost the same level as the leaders of the race.
But the effort he had to make he paid in the second and final sector on foot, of 2,5 kilometers. There Sergio Lorenzo came much cooler and took advantage of it to excel in goal Emilio Martín in 24 seconds. In third position arrived Rubén Álvarez to 46. "It's been a few years being second, the thorn was a bit stuck and, finally it could be. It was very emotional, I did not expect the arrival to be like that in front of my countrymen, "Sergio Lorenzo said as soon as he won. For his part, Emilio Martín pointed out that "you can not always win, even if you always go out and try. More having rivals like Sergio Lorenzo. I made that mistake in the transition, but then I paid for it. When there is so much equality, that difference is accentuated in the second sector ".
In the female category, Rocío Molas has been the winner. Of course, had to overcome the initial thrust of Mude Rodriguez, a runner who has gone to the world of duathlon, and took advantage of that speed to get ahead of their rivals in almost a minute after the first five kilometers. But then he paid the least experience on the bicycle and lost that income. Rocío Molas reached the finish line in first position, taking 15 seconds to Mude Rodríguez and 28 a María Rojo. "I'm very happy. I did not expect to win, because I came to do a workout and things are going better than I expected. I had a point more than my teammates and I have managed to give me this joy, "said Rocío Molas at the finish line.
Apart from the professionals, many runners have been able to enjoy a magnificent afternoon of sports in the Parque del Alamillo. More than 700 registered duathletes, in addition to their families and numerous spectators, have populated the Island of the Cartuja to enjoy this event, the first of the Europa FM Circuit, which has already become the most popular in Spain. And that serves as an advance for the Triathlon of Seville, which will be held next May.
