Starlist of the 70.3 IRONMAN 2024 World Championship in Taupo

Next December 14th and 15th, TaupōNew Zealand will become the epicenter of international triathlon with the celebration of the World championship HOMBRE DE HIERRO 70.3 2024.

The competition will feature a great line-up of triathletes, including world champions and Olympic medallists, who will fight for victory this year.

In this article we tell you both the favorites for victory and the complete starlist of participants.

Final round of the IRONMAN PRO SERIES

The IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Taupō will also be the final round of the IRONMAN Pro Series

The winners of the event will be able to take home a total of 3.000 points, plus a cash prize of $75.000 for the champions of each category.

In total, $500.000 will be distributed among the professional participants, with an additional $1,7 million for the top 50 in the Pro Series, both in the men's and women's categories.

Favorite

In the women's category, the American stands out Taylor Knibb, who will be looking to complete their hat-trick of consecutive victories in this competition.

Taylor Knibb arrives in Taupō after a spectacular year, being the first champion of the T100 Series.

At just 26 years old, Knibb has proven herself to be one of the best triathletes working today and will start as the big favourite for the title, especially after her victories in St. George The 2022 y Lahti in 2023.

This season she has remained undefeated in all the middle distance events in which she has participated.

Along with Knibb will be Kat matthews (United Kingdom), who was runner-up in the IRONMAN World Championship in Nice in September.

Matthews has had an outstanding season and will be joined by other figures such as Imogen Simmonds (Switzerland), who also shared the podium with Knibb last year in Lahti. Both will try to overtake the American and win the coveted world title.

The list also includes renowned triathletes such as the Australians Ashleigh Gentle y Ellie Salthouse, in addition to the Canadian Paula Findlay, all of them recognized middle distance specialists who will undoubtedly seek to make things difficult for Knibb and spring a surprise in New Zealand.

As for the Spanish, we will have the presence of Marta Sanchez y Sara Perez  who will surely try to fight for the podium.

Favorites

In the men's category, the leading role will be played by Hayden Wilde, who will attempt to become IRONMAN 70.3 world champion in his own country.

Wilde, 27, has had a brilliant 2024, highlighting the fight for Olympic gold with Alex Yee at the Paris 2024 Games and his victory in the grand final of the WTCS in Torremolinos.

Wilde arrives in Taupō on the back of recent wins in Phuket and Tinman, making him the favourite to take the title on 15 December.

However, last year's winner, Rich Bogen (Germany), will also be on the starting line, seeking his second consecutive IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship victory.

Another triathlete to keep in mind is the Frenchman Leo Bergere, a bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, who has won every IRONMAN 70.3 event she has competed in.

Bergère hopes to continue his winning streak and, in the process, seek revenge against Wilde, who beat him in Paris.

In addition, the Belgian Jelle Geens, recent winner of the T100 in Las Vegas, also presents itself as a strong threat for the podium.
