Cascais prepares for the 13th edition of the Swim Grand Prix

The municipality of Cascais is already finalizing the details for the 13th edition of the Swim Grand Prix, considered the largest open water competition in Portugal.

Following the recent official presentation, with the presence of the Councillor for Sports Francisco Kreye and the event director Jorge Pereira, the expectation grows in the face of the great event, which will take place on 19 and 20 2025 July.

The aim is not only to offer a top-level sporting event, but also to strengthen the local economy and consolidate Cascais as an international benchmark in the world of open water swimming.

A tradition that reaches its 13th edition

The history of the Swim Grand Prix is ​​no coincidence. Over the course of 13 editions, this competition has managed to position itself as one of the star events in the calendar of open waters.

Last year, a 50% foreign participation, which is evidence of its growing popularity beyond Portugal's borders. As a result of this success, the organisation is committed to sustained growth, with the aim of attracting even more athletes and tourists in 2025.

  • Travessia Lisboa – Cascais 20 km: The great long-distance challenge, starting in the capital and finishing on the emblematic coast of Cascais.
  • Travessia Oeiras – Cascais 10 km: A demanding test, but more accessible than the 20 km crossing.
  • SWIM 5 km: Medium distance, ideal for those with more experience in open water.
  • SWIM 3,8 km: A classic, equivalent to the swimming distance in a Ironman, for those looking for a challenge similar to a triathlon.

Thanks to this range of options, the aim is to cover everyone from novice swimmers to highly experienced athletes.

International projection and worldwide recognition

The Cascais Swim Grand Prix has gained prestige not only nationally, but also on the world scene of open water swimming.

It is recognized as one of the most notable tests from World Open Water Swimming Association, occupying a privileged place in the top 7 of 34 tests.

This international support is also reflected in the influx of professional athletes, who see the Swim Grand Prix as a key point to measure their performance and physical preparation in open waters.
