The PTO takes a step to the short distance with the T1 Indoor Triathlon: Speed to the Limit

El T1 Indoor Triathlon World Cup comes to the world of triathlon to shake up the calendar of competitions by the hand of the Professional Triathletes Organization (PTO) and World triathlon.
This event, which will be held on March 22 in the French city of Lievin, proposes a short but intense format: a 200-meter swim, a 2,8 km circuit in bike and 1 km of racing.
All of this will be concentrated in an enclosed area where there will be a 25-metre pool installed inside a 200-metre oval race track. The result is a race so frenetic that it can be completed in less than 10 minutes.
Although the PTO is known for boosting the T100 Triathlon World Tour with its distance of 100 km (2 km swimming, 80 km cycling and 18 km running), now broadens its horizons with this short triathlon model that seeks to captivate both television audiences and fans who want to see their idols compete in a compact and close environment.
In alliance with the local club Lievin Triathlon Club, which has organized the “Lievin Indoor Triathlon Festival"For the past three years, this edition promises a unique spectacle, with packed stands and direct contact between athletes and fans.
A new era for Triathlon
The landing of the T1 Indoor Triathlon World Cup on the official calendar of the World Triathlon Cup represents an important milestone.
Last year, Lievin had already tried to host a World Cup, consolidating the idea that indoor triathlon can bring dynamism and spectacle to this sport. But in 2025, the PTO takes a definitive step by joining the organization and contributing its experience in major events.
Those who remember the Lievin Indoor Triathlon Festival will know that the atmosphere is unlike any other outdoor event. The public follows every move without missing a detail, while the triathletes adapt to a course that allows no distractions.
Explosive Format: 200m, 2,8km and 1km
Talking about an “explosive triathlon” never made so much sense. The event is divided as follows:
- Swimming (200m): It will be held in a temporarily installed 25-meter pool.
- Cycling (2,8km): It will take place on the 200-meter indoor track, where each turn becomes a continuous sprint.
- Race (1km): With the same track as the stage, the pace will be dizzying and any mistake will be very costly.
Experts say that the best athletes They will complete the route in less than 10 minutes. Therefore, the pressure at the start becomes extremely important, since a slow transition can determine the outcome.
The organisers have also confirmed that the format will repeat the knockout system: there will be qualifying rounds, semi-finals, play-offs and finals with 12 athletes in each round. This way, a continuous spectacle is guaranteed from the first round.
The Role of the PTO and World Triathlon
The PTO, headed by its CEO Sam renouf, has set itself the goal of bringing triathlon to the general public.
With the T100 Triathlon World Tour they achieved a wide projection, but “exploring new formats that attract more spectators” is one of the lines of expansion.
After signing a 12-year agreement last year with World triathlon, announced their intention to promote shorter modalities alongside their middle-distance events.
This T1 Indoor Triathlon World Cup fits perfectly with that strategy, offering:
- Improved television coverage
- More opportunities for professionals
- A show for those who enjoy dynamic tests
Competitors in Lievin will earn valuable World Cup ranking points (500 points for the winners) and will be eligible for a prize of $60.000, the same purse as any other World Cup on the official calendar.
