Tamara Gómez wins the Mooloolaba World Cup

A spectacular Tamara Gómez has been proclaimed winner of the ITU Triathlon World Cup in Mooloolaba.

 

 

Tamara Gómez has climbed to the top of the podium after maintaining a vibrant duel with the Canadian Amelie Kretz during the 5 km race finals, in a competition held in Australia at the Spanish dawn of this Saturday 14 of March.

After his good role a week ago in the World Series of Abu Dhabi, in which she obtained a prominent 18ª place, the Spanish triathlete arrived in a good moment to this first round of the 2015 World Cup. Once the 750 m swim segment was completed, Gómez left the water five seconds behind the first classified Simon Ackerman, in a very compact group that covered the 200 m until the first transition. From there would leave a comfortable group head of 16 triathletes, among which was the Spanish.

The triathlete of Elche remained well positioned throughout these four cycling laps that constituted a very technical segment. During these 20 km, the first pursuer group maintained a disadvantage that oscillated between the 11 and 30 seconds, until reaching the second transition they managed to merge with the leaders.

Everything was to be decided in the 5 km final race on foot and that was when an impressive Tamara Gomez took the reins of the competition. The runner-up of Spain 2014 was accompanied in these first bars by Kretz. Halfway through the segment, both were pursued by Emmie Charayon, Lisa Perterer and Jessica Broderick and behind them Ashleigh Gentle. Arrived at the last lap and subtracting only 1,25 km Gomez and Kretz struggled for gold in a fast final stretch, with the Spanish proving to be the strongest, managing to prevail in order to win the victory, at the same time it marked the best partial of the race on foot.

In this way, Gómez conquered on Australian soil his first victory in a World Cup, after providing a formidable performance. An event in which the Elche triathlete dealt with determination, offering a marvelous stride to round off a magnificent day stopping the clock in 1: 01: 41. The Canadian Kretz achieved the silver medal, entering just four seconds behind the Spaniard. While the local triathlete Ashleigh Gentle was hanging the bronze medal.
