Tamara Gómez, fifth in the Games and Miriam Casillas 13ª in the European Games of Baku 2015

Spanish triathlete Tamara Gómez has achieved a brilliant fifth place during the women's test of the European Games in Baku.

 

 

A historic event in which Gómez has starred in a successful participation, the product of a great race on foot. On the other hand, Miriam Casillas He has also offered a fruitful performance in Azerbaijan, reaching the 13ª final place.

The swimming segment departing from Bilgah beach (located north of Baku) has become a determining factor, with the Caspian Sea presenting some harsh conditions this morning and making the 47 participating triathletes difficult to swim the 1,5 km. The Dutch Rachel Klamer has led the sector from the first meters. Klamer remained in the lead, accompanied by Russia's Anastasia Abrosimova in the second half of the race. Both have obtained a remarkable advantage, heading towards the first transition with an income higher than the second 30. Unfortunately the Spaniards have left behind very lagged of this first third of competition and they have been integrated in the second persecuting squad at the beginning of the cycling section.

The start of the cycling section has been led by Abrosimova and Klamer, to which Lisa Norden (Olympic sub-champion 2012) has joined during these first steps of the sector. The Russian has been off the hook in a short time, while Nicola Spirig has struggled to link with the duo headboard.

The Olympic champion has managed to hunt Klamer and Norden shortly before concluding the first of six laps in the sector. Since then the front trio has been consolidating and increasing their advantage over their rivals. Behind, a first persecuting group of about ten triathletes has struggled to reach them without success. After them, a second block in which the Spanish duo has circulated has struggled to cut differences. In this squad, both Casillas and Gomez have excelled, working incessantly and pulling the group to reduce distances.

Leading the competition the leaders have continued to increase their income and after four rounds they have obtained a mattress greater than two minutes. For its part, the group of Casillas and Gómez has been approaching the first block chasing, finally getting merged into a large platoon that has faced the final laps of the segment with the Spanish well established in it.

The leaders have offered a great deployment of forces, acting very compenetradas and taking turns to impose a very high pace in the front. In this way, the three have accessed the T2 with an advantage of 2'40 "over their adversaries. Spirig and Norden were the fastest in the passage through the transition zone, with Klamer leaving a few meters behind.

Spirig did not want to leave anything to chance and at the beginning of the race stage he has left the rest to start the 10 km of the sector alone. Next Norden and Klamer have disputed the remaining positions of the podium. Despite having a comfortable disadvantage, the Spanish have not surrendered at any time, starring very good outlets T2 and ranking among the top ten at the beginning of the last sector.

The Elche Tamara Gomez has excelled especially getting a sensational stride, rise in the fourth place and after an intense duel with the Ukrainian Yuliya Yelistratova along the three laps along the seafront, has concluded its participation in a splendid fifth place . The Extremaduran Miriam Casillas has also performed at a great level, demonstrating its good conditions in the race stage and obtaining a meritorious 13 position.

Victory for the Swiss Nicola Spirig, with a comfortable advantage over the other components of the podium. The Dutch Rachel Klamer and the Swedish Lisa Norden They have rounded up a great performance, conquering the silver and bronze medals in Azerbaijan.
