Iván Tejero and Cristina Loring defeat the Sierra de Cádiz Titan with the bicycle sector suspended by the rain

The precipitations that have devastated the Mountain range of Cadiz in the early morning of Friday and throughout the day of Saturday have forced to the suspension of the section of bicycle.

The participants have swum four kilometers in the swamp of Zahara de la Sierra and then have faced 36 miles of running race with a hard and spectacular climb to the port of Las Palomas

The Malaga triathlete Iván Tejero and the Madrilenian Cristina Loring have been proclaimed winners of the tenth edition of the Titan Sierra de Cádiz, which has been conditioned by the heavy rains that have affected the Cadiz region during the last 24 hours.

The bad weather and the negative weather forecasts have forced the suspension of the bicycle section and activating the alternative option. The athletes have faced four kilometers of swimming in the swamp of Zahara de la Sierra (Cádiz) and, after, a race on foot of 36 kilometers with the climb to the port of Las Palomas (1.357 meters) included.

In this challenge, the triathlete of Aquaeslava + KTri Iván Tejero He has taken advantage of his mastery of swimming to put on his shoes first and go running at a great distance from the strongest runners. Tejero has uploaded the port without showing weakness and has finished in 3: 27: 03. Francisco Ortega Serrano (CD La Molinera-Triathlon), winner of the Titan in 2013, has not been able to reach him despite his comeback and has been second (3: 34: 41). Pedro Lobato (Trimarbella Bike) has been third 3: 38: 29.

In the female category, the young woman from Madrid Cristina Loring (CTOA) has been imposed with a time of 4: 14: 51. The English Gail Stride (SPIF), a native of Winchester (England), has been second with 4: 18: 52, and Lola Palau Carrulla (Trinity Triathlon), third with an 4 chrono: 20: 55.

The organization, the Civil Guard and the judges of the Fatri decided unanimously, in a meeting held at seven thirty in the morning, to suspend the bike segment of the Titan X. The extreme rain of night and morning has caused the rock and sediment detachment in key sectors of the 120 kilometers and has left muddy the circuit, formed by county roads, so its danger has become extreme. In addition, the weather forecasts offered rainfall forecasts of more than 90% for a large part of the day.

The risk of falls and hypothermia in a test of more than nine hours of estimated average duration have forced the organizers to modify the circuit, in which they provide security assistance and provisioning more than a hundred volunteers who also saw their work compromised by Storm. The organizers have stressed that the safety of athletes is the highest priority in a test of these characteristics and is above any consideration, so they decided to modify the layout, even showing their total respect to the triathletes who might not share it.

The vast majority of the start line runners have taken the exit in this alternative format that, without being the mythical triathlon that is Titan, has been very demanding. 220 athletes have reached their goal, most of them under a heavy rain throughout the descent of Las Palomas and the plaza de Zahara de la Sierra. Two participants have been treated for hypothermia and several have received assistance in the beginning of hypothermia after a race with very harsh conditions.
