All prepared for the IX Desafio Doñana

Emilio Martín and Alba Reguillo will try to revalidate the title obtained last year.

Yesterday, the 9th edition of the Doñana Challenge, which is disputed next Saturday 15 in September with a total of 526 participants (421 individual and the rest distributed in 35 teams). This number of registered, of which almost an 21% come from outside of Andalusia and other countries, represents an increase of 9,6% in relation to the previous year.

Featured participants this year are Emilio Martín, Duathlon world champion and winner of the last two editions of Desafío Doñana; the winner of 2017 Alba Reguillo and that of the year 2016, Yessica Pérezalso the Huelva Juan Bautista Castilla 'Chamba', ultrafondista and long-distance triathlete, who also attended the test presentation.

During the neutralized start, the cyclist peloton will roll from the 9.00 hours along several kilometers until the official start of the race in which 100 kilometers will be completed, passing through Trebujena, Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María , Rota, Chipiona and Sanlúcar de Barrameda again. The estimated arrival of the first cyclists and the exit of the swimming segment in the transition zone will be at 11.00.

Once the bike section is finished, participants must cross the mouth and swim 1 kilometer -2,8 km. for the teams- and swim across the Guadalquivir River to Punta de Malandar. The complexity of this test lies in the tides, especially in the case of relays. The estimated arrival of the first swimmers and departure of the race segment at Punta de Malandar is at 11.15.

The foot race runs along the virgin beach of Doñana, a straight line of 15 kilometers-back and forth to complete the 30 kilometers of this segment, with dunes, sand and vegetation on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Runners will start around the 11.15 hours and the estimated arrival of the first athletes to Punta de Malandar is on the 13.15, after more than four hours of competition.

'Minidesafío'

The 'Desafío Doñana' will count one more year with a parallel activity for the promotion of triathlon, the 'MiniDesafío', an aquathlon that will be played on Friday 14 in September starting at 17.00 hours, with the participation of minors between 7 and 17. , with categories of age groups from pre-benjamines to cadets and very affordable distances with careers in Bajo Guía and swimming in the waters of the beach itself.

The test is organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, with the support of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation, and with the collaboration of the municipalities of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Trebujena, Jerez, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Rota and Chipiona and Space Natural Doñana and has the sponsorship of the companies Vodafone, Infisport, Coca Cola, Cruzcampo Radler, Acquajet and GM Technology.
