Everything ready for the Spanish Duathlon Championship
Pontevedra dresses up to welcome the Spanish Duathlon Championship. Throughout an intense weekend that will feature a remarkable participation, in a meeting that will gather 800 athletes. They will be joined by 200 volunteers and official 20, in a luxury setting by the city of Lérez
.
It will be a weekend full of emotions that will begin with the dispute of the test Cadet (12 hours) and in which the distances will be 3 km of running, 10 km of bike and 1,5 km of running. There are 84 athletes registered for the men's event. In the women's event (12:02), 57 duathletes will take the start.
Next the competition of Paraduatlón (12.50 hours), in which there is a total of 30 enrolled. In addition the Paralympic Duathlon test has a special prize, since the first three classified in each category will have a guaranteed place for the 2014 World Championship. The distances will be 5 km of running, 20 km of cycling and 2,5 km of running.
At 14 hours will come the moment of the departure of the participants in the Championship of Spain junior with a huge participation in the men's category with 103 athletes. In turn, the female category will have 39 registered athletes. The distances in the junior category are: 5 km of running, 20 km of cycling and 2,5 km of running.
And from the 15: 45 hours, the female elite will take the streets of Pontevedra, in a test that will have as main incentive the presence of Ana Burgos, which has just announced its withdrawal. It is an open championship, with 33 participants, in which there is no clear favorite. Estefanía Domínguez, Melina Alonso, Aida Valiño, Ana Rovira, Immaculate Pereiro y Anna Viñolas They are some of the contenders with options to fight for the title.
In the men's category (18: 30 hours) there is a total of 92 athletes registered among which stand out Emilio Martín (current Champion of Spain and the World of the modality), Roger Roca and Galician Gustavo Rodríguez among others. The distances for the elite test are 10 km of running, 40 km of cyclists and 5 km of running.
The next day, on Sunday 28 in April, it will be the turn of the participants in the categories of Age groups. On this occasion, 360 duathletes will tour the streets of the city of Pontevedra, in a weekend that will give us a great sporting spectacle.
