All prepared for the Doñana Challenge

The Doñana Challenge honors athletes, entities and volunteers who have participated in previous editions

The vice president of the Junta de Andalucía and Minister of Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration, Juan Marín, attended yesterday in Sanlucar de Barrameda (Cádiz) to the X presentation Doñana Challenge and to the act of tribute to athletes, institutions, volunteers, clubs and sponsoring companies that have taken part or collaborated in the competition in the previous nine editions.

 Juan Marín, who was accompanied by the mayor of Sanlúcar, Víctor Mora, and the general director of Sports Promotion, Healthy Habits and Sports Fabric, María de Nova, highlighted the consolidation of a test “which represents the tourism-sport binomial as nobody, impacting on the economy of Sanlucar and the surrounding towns, and that celebrates ten editions, for what it is to congratulate, in addition, in my case, that I have seen her practically born. ”

 The vice president of the Junta de Andalucía did not want to pass the opportunity to congratulate the workers of the Public Company for the Management of Tourism and Sport, those of the Sports Board of Sanlúcar and the volunteers of the test, “true architects of these ten years and without which the Doñana Challenge It would not have been possible. ”

 The act of homage was very emotional and plates were given to some of the winners of the previous editions, as Emilio Martín, Alba Reguillo, Lino Barruncho and Basilio Polvillo, to the triathlete ambassador of the test, Juan Bautista Castilla 'Chamba'; to the technical director of all editions, former Olympic triathlete José María Merchán, to the municipalities that collaborate in the event, clubs and groups that participate, such as volunteers, sponsoring companies, Andalusian Triathlon Federation, Civil Guard, Red Cross and Space Natural Doñana

 A different triathlon

 El Doñana Challenge is a triathlon different from the rest. First, by the odifferent tests than usual, starting with cycling, followed by swimming and running on foot. Second, because the tour is changing, from year to year and within the development of the test itself, due to river currents and tides.

In fact, both the date of celebration of the event and the time of departure is conditioned by the coefficients and the tide times of the month of September.

But without a doubt, the main feature of this event is the privileged environment by which it develops. Run down the virgin beach of the Doñana National Park It is an experience that is not available to other sports events. 30 kilometers of nature, water and sand against the physical and mental resistance of the triathlete is the culmination of the competition.

Sneutralized test will start at 10.30 hours,

The cyclist squad will roll for several kilometers until the official exit of the race, in which 100 kilometers will be completed, passing through Trebujena, Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, Rota, Chipiona and Sanlúcar de Barrameda again .

The estimated arrival of the first cyclists and the departure of the swimming segment in the transition zone will be from 13.00 hours.

 1 kilometer designated to swim across the Guadalquivir river to Punta de Malandar.

Once the bicycle section is finished, participants must cross the mouth and swim 1 kilometer and swim across the Guadalquivir River to Punta de Malandar.

The complexity of this test lies in the tides, which can cause some participants to exit the water away from the transition zone. The estimated arrival of the first swimmers and departure from the race segment at Punta de Malandar is at 13.15.

 The running race runs along the virgin beach of Doñana,

a straight line of 15 kilometers - round trip until completing the 30 kilometers of this segment - with dunes, sand and vegetation on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other.

The runners will start around 13.15 hours and the estimated arrival of the first athletes to Punta de Malandar is about 15.00, after more than four hours of competition.

10 years of the Doñana Challenge

 The Doñana Challenge, which will celebrate its tenth edition this Saturday, September 21, has increased its participation compared to the previous edition by 1,6%.

A total of 428 athletes among all modalities - by 421 of the 2018 edition -, have enrolled in the test, assuming a New record of participation.

Tomorrow Friday afternoon, a new edition of the Mini Challenge will also be held, the children's aquatlon of the Doñana Challenge on the beach of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and that will concentrate more than 200 boys and girls in a spectacular sport promotion event.

Featured Triathletes

In the tenth edition of the Doñana Challenge, some of the winners of the previous nine editions will participate, such as the duathlon world champion, the Huelva Emilio Martín, who will try to achieve his fourth consecutive victory in the competition.

Manchega will also be present Alba Reguillo, winner in 2017 in the female category; the portuguese Lino Barruncho, winner of the second edition in 2010; and the Sevillian Basil Dust, who won the victory in 2013.

Also noteworthy is the presence of the Catalan FastTriatlon triathlete, Amaury Dehez; Sevillian Samer Ali-Saad, with more than one hundred individual victories in his extensive medal winners; the Asturian Laura Álvarez Bedía, 3ª classified in 2018; Salvador Gil Gil, 2º classified in 2018; and the Huelva Juan Bautista Castilla 'Chamba', among others.

The event was also attended by the territorial delegate Education and Sports in Cádiz, Manuel Andreu; the president of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation, Pablo Castilla; and the delegates of Sport of the City councils of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Almonte, Francisco Javier San Nicolás and Iván Hernández, respectively.

The test is organized by the Ministry of Education and Sport, through the Public Company for Tourism and Sports Management of Andalusia, with the support of the Andalusian Triathlon Federation, and the collaboration of the municipalities of Sanlucar de Barrameda, Trebujena, Jerez, El Puerto de Santa María, Rota and Chipiona and the Doñana Natural Area and is sponsored by the firms Vodafone, Infisport, Powerade, Cruzcampo Radler, Acquajet and GM Technology.
