All about the XTERRA World Tour 2025

El XTERRA World Tour It is synonymous with adventure, mud and spectacular landscapes.
For nearly three decades, this off-road triathlon series has brought together mountain bikers and road triathletes with one goal: to push the limits in a format that combines open water swimming, bike mountain and trail running.
Now, the season 2025 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in its history, with new venues, expanded regional championships and Italy's farewell as the stage for the World Championship.
Below, we tell you everything you need to know so you don't miss out on any of the upcoming events this year.
What is the XTERRA World Tour?
For those who are starting out in the discipline, the XTERRA World Tour is the answer to a fundamental question: what would happen if we combined the skill of mountain bikers with the endurance of road triathletes?
The result is a circuit that has grown to encompass 52 events in 25 countries, divided into 4 different regions. Each is an off-road festival, with swimming, MTB and trail running races offering qualifying places for the prestigious XTERRA World Championship.
This world championship is a dream come true for those who enjoy the sport. Only a select few, divided into age categories ranging from 20 to 80+, manage to qualify for an event that tests even the most versatile athlete.
The key concept that defines XTERRA is its community: people willing to get dirty in the mud, to avoid roots and rocks on the bike and to put on the slippers trail without fear of scratches or falls.
Each edition becomes a great sporting celebration, where you can share the route with elite triathletes, veterans of a thousand battles and beginners eager to improve themselves.
How the ranking system works
The XTERRA World Tour season is organized around several qualifying events, regional championships and the grand final:
- Qualifying Races
All Full Distance events on the tour offer the opportunity to secure a place in the World Championship. Depending on the race, there are 28 or 58 slots for each of the 13 age groups. - Regional Championships
These are also qualifying events, although with an additional incentive: to be proclaimed regional champion and wear the victory jersey. Triathletes from a country within the region can compete for the title; however, anyone can participate and try to get their slot for the World Championship. - World Championship
The highlight of the season is the XTERRA World Championship, a closed competition for 800-1.000 participants who obtained their place in the qualifying rounds. As well as being the ultimate goal for many, it is an event that brings together world stars and closes the season with a spectacle worth seeing. - World Performance Index (WPI)
For those who are not just racing for the rankings, but also want to measure themselves against other athletes in their age group on a global level, there is the WPI. This index takes into account factors such as weather, terrain characteristics and the quality of the peloton to rank each athlete globally.
Big news for the 2025 season
The year 2025 promises drastic changes, expansion of venues and some farewells.

European Championship in Germany
Zittau will be the new stage for crowning the European champions, leaving behind the hills of Prachatice. XTERRA O-SEE Challenge celebrates its 25th anniversary and expects a very high level of competitiveness, in addition to the famous post-race party.
North American Championship returns to Oak Mountain
In May, Oak Mountain (Alabama, USA) will once again host this event with its already famous “Blood Rock” bike section. It is one of the most iconic stages of the calendar, competing in popularity with the legendary Maui and Beaver Creek.

Italy's farewell and the future of the competition
El XTERRA World Championship 2025 will be held for the last time in Molveno (Italy).
This town was the first to host the event outside of Maui (Hawaii), marking a historic milestone for the off-road community. For four editions, Molveno has offered one of the most spectacular routes between lakes and mountains in the heart of the Dolomites.
Youth in power: the rise of the Youth World Tour
2024 was the year in which the Youth World Tour, focused on athletes aged 14 to 19.
As well as giving them the chance to compete on top-level circuits, the lockdown in Italy allowed the young finalists to meet elite stars and age-group players.
The success has been so great that important announcements are expected for 2025, with more venues and a calendar that motivates new generations to grow in the off-road scene.
If you are looking for a different challenge, with spectacular scenery and an incredible atmosphere, XTERRA is your gateway to the off-road triathlon par excellence.
