From Son Bou, to the Spanish championship

The second edition of the Triatlô Olímpic Son Bou will bring together 125 participants this Saturday to compete in the Olympic and Super Sprint modalities

Son Bou recovers its status as a triathlon circuit this Saturday to host the second edition of the Son Bou Olympic Triathlon, a test that will have two categories, Olympic and Super Sprint.

Some 125 participants will gather in this event sponsored by the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca with the Alaior City Council, and which will award the first three classified in the Olympic modality a place in the Spanish championship of the modality.

The test will be held on Saturday

The competition will start this Saturday at 15.30 pm with the Super Sprint start, a distance that has 350 meters of swimming, 12,6 kilometers by bicycle and 2,8 kilometers of running.

At 17:1.500 p.m. the start will be given for the participants of the Olympic distance over 41 meters of swimming, 9,2 kilometers by bicycle and XNUMX kilometers of running. This modality, in addition, can be played by teams.

One of the main attractions of the competition is the hardness of its route since the bicycle route takes place along the Son Bou road, as well as in its section of running on foot since it incorporates part of the Camí de Cavalls and the sand of Son Bou beach.

The event was presented this Thursday at the Alaior Town Hall with the presence of José Luis Benejam, Mayor of Alaior, Elena Costa, manager of the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca, Rafel Quintana, Alaior Sports Councilor and Guiem Bosch , Elitechip manager.

The mayor, Jose Luis Benejam, explains that “en Alaior we love events, especially sporting ones, and even more if they help to de-seasonalize, as is the case with this triathlon, which is gaining weight in its second edition with the aim of becoming a national benchmark ”.

"This test helps us in the external projection, there are sports events, but there are also much more tourist attractions and we encourage people to get to know them”, Concludes the person in charge of the Consistory.

"The commitment of the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca for sport is very strong and could not be absent from this event", Explain Elena Col, the manager of the foundation.

"These types of actions that help to de-seasonalize and make Menorca known in another way are a priority because they also benefit local companies that make the effort to keep it open out of season”, Concludes Coll.

Guiem Bosch, for his part, he welcomes the level rise that the event has experienced. "The fact that the Triatlô Olímpic Son Bou grants a place for the Spanish distance championship has served as a claim for some of the best triathletes in the Balearic Islands and shows the potential that the competition has”, Explains the organizer.

"The support of the Fundació Foment de Turisme and the Alaior town hall is key for this event to be placed on the national triathlon calendarn, ”concludes Bosch.

The test will force the traffic on the highway between Son Bou and Alaior to be cut from approximately 15:19.30 p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., so access to the coastal urbanization will be through the Torresolí highway.

Depending on the weather conditions, if they are adverse, the start of the Olympic category will be at 15.30 pm instead of at 17 pm.
