Titan Triathlon, one of the toughest and most extraordinary challenges in Europe
The Titan Sierra de Cádiz celebrates its 27 on September tenth anniversary become one of the triathlons with greater tradition and prestige of the national calendar of this discipline.
A total of 280 triathletes from across the country and from Portugal will face one of the toughest and most beautiful challenges in Europe throughout the Sierra de Cádiz and the Natural Park of Grazalema, with an incursion, for the first time, in the territory of Malaga.
As a tribute to the more than 2.000 triathletes who have participated in this test throughout its nine editions, the Titan has extended its travels this year to become a Long Distance Triathlon. Participants will swim 4 kilometers in the Zahara de la Sierra-El Gastor reservoir; they will face 120 kilometers in bike, with a climb to the ports of Las Palomas (1.357 metres), Montejaque (a new climb in this edition, of 720 metres) and El Boyar (1.103 metres); and, finally, they will run 30 kilometres between Zahara de la Sierra, Algodonales and again Zahara de la Sierra, in whose square the finish line is located after a final climb that is a three-kilometre "wall".
The circuit, with more than 3.000 meters of unevenness accumulated in the cycling sector and 600 meters in the race on foot, is one of the most extreme of the long distance triathlon in Europe.
Participants will have a limit of eleven hours to complete the test, whose departure will be at the 8: 30 morning hours at the Zahara reservoir. Many of the winners of previous editions will participate in the test invited by the organization.
Those responsible for the Titan have expressed their satisfaction with the response of the triathletes to a test of such an extraordinary demand. "We propose something very special in this tenth anniversary, and the triathletes have shown us again that there are no limits when there is will and motivation to achieve an objective. That 280 athletes are on the starting line of a triathlon with these characteristics is a success. We speak of a unique challenge not only for its hardness, but also for the magical environment in which it is made and for the experience of facing the Titan and sharing that experience with the titans, "they explain from the organization.
The participants will concentrate since Friday on Zahara de la Sierra and Algodonales and have reserved most of the hotels and rural houses in the area, which is a boost the economy, tourism and the promotion of this unique enclave in Andalusia.
The Titan will have the presence of the triathlete Ramón Arroyo, who will share his experience in the fight against multiple sclerosis for ten years through long distance triathlon. The Arroyo project, IM4EM, is the solidarity cause of the Cadiz test in this tenth edition.
Origin
El Titan Sierra de Cádiz It is organized by three friends who love this sport, Luis Javier Beltrán, Jesús Sanduvete and José González, and remains outside the major commercial circuits. He was born before the explosion of triathlon and long distance tests in the country. Then it was an unprecedented initiative to be programmed at the end of the season and to include an unusual altimetry for the triathlon, which was usually played in flat circuits.
The format was consolidated in the calendar and today it has reached the rank of mythical event for many triathletes. As the most appreciated values by athletes, the Titan is committed to a test far from the masses that allows participants to live a unique experience, both for the hardness of the route through mountains, and for the spirit of coexistence, personal improvement and passion for triathlon that is breathed in each edition of the event. "The Titan triathlon takes you to the limits of effort and enjoyment. You want it to end, but you wish it would never end. You curse it and love it, all at the same time in the same instant. Some have already lived this experience, others seek it, and others do not even know that they are looking for it. Nobody can explain this mystery, you can only live it," says José González.
