"We take a two-front approach to protect the integrity of our IRONMAN World Championship events“said Kate Mittelstadt, director of the IRONMAN Anti-Doping Program. “First, we make sure that all athletes know their rights and responsibilities under the anti-doping rules and our testing program.
Second, we run a comprehensive program of tests inside and outside the competition, aimed at professional athletes and age groups throughout the IRONMAN World Championship.
The combination of urine and blood sample collection with the athlete's Biological Passport and advanced analytical screens, including EPO and IRMS, ensures that the tests we perform support both deterrence and detection of qualified athletes who violate anti-doping rules ".
