No athlete with Down syndrome had participated in an IRONMAN in its 42-year history, and therefore none had completed this test. In addition, Chris's feat made him enter the Guinness Book of Records.
Chris has been a member of Special Olympics since he was nine years old. Now, this organization has more than 5,7 million athletes from 220 countries with intellectual disabilities, and uses sport to create an inclusive world for people of all abilities.
Chris started his way to the finish line in Panama City Beach three years ago when his father Nik noticed that his son was becoming more and more sedentary and encouraged him to improve his fitness every day by 1 %. The training started with a single push-up.
«You can do things that you considered impossibles, ”explained Chris, who now wants to show other people with Down syndrome that they can also complete a triathlon.
