There are only a few hours left until the voting of the best moments of the Lauerus Awards ends.

This year one of the nominees is the North American Chris nikic who has become the first triathlete with down syndrome in finish an IRONMAN and qualify for kona.

In the video "An incredible dream come true " They tell us about Chris's feat that finished IRONMAN Florida with a time of 16 hours, 46 minutes and 9 seconds,

Chris arrived at Panama City Beach at night, with cuts on his knees and 14 minutes before the official cut-off time, showing his determination and perseverance.

No athlete with Down syndrome had participated in an IRONMAN in its 42-year history, and therefore none had completed this test. In addition, Chris's feat made him enter the Guinness Book of Records.

Chris has been a member of Special Olympics since he was nine years old. Now, this organization has more than 5,7 million athletes from 220 countries with intellectual disabilities, and uses sport to create an inclusive world for people of all abilities.

Chris started his way to the finish line in Panama City Beach three years ago when his father Nik noticed that his son was becoming more and more sedentary and encouraged him to improve his fitness every day by 1 %. The training started with a single push-up.

«You can do things that you considered impossibles, ”explained Chris, who now wants to show other people with Down syndrome that they can also complete a triathlon.
