The Fuente Álamo Triathlon returns, the Triathlon of triathletes

Great figures of this sport, such as Ivan Raña, John's Noelia o Cesc Godoy, will take this May 13 the starting line of the XXXI Villa de Fuente Álamo International Triathlon.

The Villa de Fuente Álamo International Triathlon- Melones El Abuelo Grand Prix returns to the national and international calendar with more strength and enthusiasm than ever.

This was remarked by the event's general manager, Ginés Bermúdez, at the event's press conference.

He was accompanied at the event by the mayors of the municipalities of Fuente Álamo and Mazarrón, Juana Martínez and Gaspar Miras, respectively; the spokesperson for Melones el Abuelo, Rosa Belén Montoro; and the world and European champion, Mariano García.

Some of the sponsors of this edition have also been present at this presentation, such as Caja Rural Regional, Pujante SA, Kia Talleres M. Gallego, ONA Hotel Hacienda del Álamo, Aromais Muñoz-Rojo and Suditrans.

Returns after 3 years of hiatus due to the pandemic

After stoppage forced by the pandemic, which lasted three years, this dean event of the triathlon in Spain returns on Saturday, May 13, with what will be its thirty-first edition, and it does so with its unique route and the team of more than 300 volunteers led by Ginés Bermúdez for more than three decades.

900 triathletes will take the start

This year there will be 900 triathletes who will start at Rihuete beach, in Mazarrón. Among them there will be triathlon legends in Spain such as Iván Raña or Cesc Godoy, who return to Fuente Álamo, where they won first place on several occasions.

The Valencian Noelia de Juan will also be there, who will once again seek to get on the podium, as she already did in 2018 and 2019.

As always, the sports director of Trifuenteálamo has recalled, the future of triathlon in Spain will be present at the start this Saturday, both in the female and male categories. “Our philosophy is to unite elite triathletes, young people from age groups and volunteers”, he has pointed out.

The circuits

After the swimming segment, the participants will get back on the bikes in T1 in Mazarrón, and will face the cycling test, one of the emblems of this test, in a particular 25-kilometre route to Fuente Álamo in which they will have to overcome the Alto de la Cuesta de Los Ruices, with an altitude of 325 meters.

Already in Fuente Álamo the T2 awaits them, with a unique dissociated system in the world of triathlon, and they will finish the test with a foot race in the urban circuit, of 5 kilometers, in which the encouragement of relatives is complemented by the support from residents of the town and, of course, the volunteers themselves.

After the test, the participants can recover their strength in the large fruit tent of Melones El Abuelo and, both at lunch and dinner, they will taste the products of Pollos Pujante SA At night, at 23:00 p.m., the the traditional awards ceremony and subsequent party.

The Triathlon of triathletes, which premiered the name of 'international' in its thirtieth edition, now seeks to establish itself as a benchmark in Europe and the rest of the world.

Rosa Montoro, financial director of Melones El Abuelo and spokesperson for the official sponsor of the event, has highlighted the values ​​that emerge from the Triathlon of triathletes. “Effort, sacrifice, perseverance and coexistence are highlighted every year and make this event something very special.”, he has assessed, while ratifying the company's commitment to this test for more than a decade.

In this sense, the mayor of Mazarrón, Gaspar Miras, has expressed himself, who has valued the symbiosis that unites both municipalities in the organization of this event and highlighted the excellent quality of the beach where, for another year, the proof: Rihuete.

For her part, Juana Martínez has also shown her emotion at the return of Trifuenteálamo, since she has experienced it since her youth as a volunteer and as a member of the organizing committee and, this year, as mayor. “After these years of pandemic that did so much damage, we return with much more desire, enthusiasm and energy to this adventure of which I have the honor of being part of the organizing committee".

On Friday, the festival of volunteers

This Friday, as is tradition, the triathletes will be able to start collecting their bib numbers and settling in the free accommodation offered by the organization, both in the Javier Gómez Noya pavilion and in the motorhome parking.

In addition, starting at 20:30 p.m., the volunteers' party will take place in the El Serré municipal multipurpose space, which will bring together this year's 340 volunteers, the organizing committee and sponsors.

In this already essential appointment for the test, the 'Euro solidarity' check will be delivered to ELA Región de Murcia, a gesture with which the organization wants to show its support for the association and give visibility to this disease.
