Xavi Llobet wins the Half Tri Canet 2011
Barely twenty days after beating the more than 1.400 participants who took part in the Valencia Triathlon Gran Premio Ibercaja, Xavi Llobet achieved another victory yesterday in the Half Tri Canet 2011, with a time of 4 hours, 27 minutes and 48 seconds. The Catalan was accompanied on the final podium by David Navarro and Pedro José Andújar. In women, Nuria Pubill won.
Gone are the multiple problems with obtaining the necessary permits for the celebration of the II Edition of Half Tri Canet, organized by the company Ironmad Tri and the Department of Sports of Canet d'En Berenguer, due to the unfeasibility of the cycling sector . The adverse weather conditions that preceded yesterday's event also jeopardized the test and which, among other things, led to the cancellation and modification of the event's agenda for Saturday, October 1, with the recognition of the swimming and cycling sectors or the collection of numbers.
Yesterday's day began still at night (06:45 hours), with the collection of numbers by the triathletes, the opening of material control and the marking of all participants. The low ambient temperature at that time motivated the use of neoprene to combat the icy temperatures of the sea.
The test finally began at 08:00 a.m. with a 1.900-meter swimming circuit, in a two-lap course with entry and turn in the sand of the Canetera beach 'Racó de Mar', one of the most recognized on the Valencian coast. and the entire Mediterranean.
A clear dominator
From the start, Xavi Llobet (CN Manresa) began to make a difference. He achieved the best swimming partial, leaving first place towards T1 with a record of 29:10 minutes, which allowed him to start the solo cycling sector. In this test he set an impressive pace, close to 40 km/h on average, which did not allow his pursuers to cut his gap and at the same time strengthened his chances of victory. In this way, he reached T2 maintaining his first position, followed by David Navarro (CTS Passatge Sport) and Pedro Jose Andújar (CD Trirunner Cartagena), who could not reduce the difference in the half marathon of the race sector that was held for the Paseo Marítimo, Club Náutico and surroundings of the nucleus of the beach in a route of 4 laps on a circuit of 5.250 meters. After completing this distance, Llobet reached the finish line with a time of 4 hours, 27 minutes and 48 seconds, more than 10 minutes behind his pursuers who had to fight for second and third position. Finally, David Navarro, thanks to his important partial in this segment, prevailed over Pedro Jose Andújar, whom he led by 1 minute and 30 seconds.
In the female category, Nuria Pubill (CT Abadessescon) prevailed with authority over her rivals, setting a final time of 5 hours 13 minutes and 58 in a row. They were followed by Marta Tello (CT Corre-Cuita) and Cristina Liz (Marlins Triatlon Madrid) at 22 minutes and 32 minutes, respectively.
In the rest of the male categories, Mario Gonzalvo from Claveria won the Sub'23 category; Enrique Sancho from Fisioreig.com, achieved victory in Veteranos I by beating Jorge Siro (Complutum Triatlon) in a brilliant finish by less than 20 seconds and José Vicene Girona (C. Triesport Roquette) won in Veteranos II. In women, the victory in the Veteranas I category went to Miriam Cañizares (CT Las Rozas), with more than six hours of competition. Regarding the category of best local triathlete, the victory went to the triathlete from Canet d'En Berenguer José María Sayas de Haro, who finished in a brilliant seventeenth position overall with a total time of 4 hours and 57 minutes.
At the end of the test, the Councilor responsible for the municipal sports area, Carlos García, stated that “this event is a real attraction for our municipality due to the tourism promotion it entails and its capacity to stimulate the sector. During the weekend the hotel occupancy has been one hundred percent. It is also especially interesting for the decentralization of summer tourism and above all to promote the sport with the values that triathlon transmits: sacrifice and perseverance»
Both in the delivery of trophies and during the celebration of the entire sporting event —with more than seven hours of duration— it has been closely followed by both the Mayor, Leandro Benito, and his government team, for the test was quite a spectacle sports and tourism.
