The 2026 XTERRA World Championship returns to the U.S. for its 30th anniversary.

El XTERRA World Championship will return to the United States to celebrate its 30th anniversary, with Ruidoso, New Mexico, being the chosen venue for this international event.
It will take place from 8 to 11 October 2026 and will be developed in the environment of the Lincoln National Forest, located at more than 2.100 meters above sea level.
A return to the roots of XTERRA
Ruidoso will offer a spectacular setting that takes athletes back to the roots of XTERRA, with alpine trails, challenging mountain climbs, and technical descents that will test all competitors.
This American mountain town will host the championship for three consecutive years (2026-2028), highlighting its commitment to sport and sustainable tourism.
The mayor of Ruidoso, Lynn Crawford, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "This is a tremendous honor for our mountain community and a recognition of the natural beauty and challenging terrain that characterize our region. We are ready to welcome athletes from around the world."
A challenge at over 2.000 meters
The competition will start with a 1,5km swim in the spectacular Grindstone Lake, followed by a 30km swim in bike mountainous terrain with challenging climbs and technical trails. Finally, the triathletes will face a 10-km run on rocky trails, concluding in the heart of Ruidoso, at Wingfield Park.

Youth takes center stage
The XTERRA Youth World Championship, created in 2024, will take center stage in this edition. Nico Lebrun, Global Technical Director of XTERRA, highlighted the strategic importance of simultaneously hold the youth championship, “an opportunity to inspire the next generation of off-road triathletes.”
Festival and local culture
The championship will not only be sporting, but also cultural and community-based. Samantha Paulson, responsible for the XTERRA America festival, said that the event seeks to "create an experience that goes beyond the competition, integrating the music, gastronomy and culture of Ruidoso."
Likewise, Steve Andrus, manager of the XTERRA Americas Tour, called this return a “special moment to celebrate 30 years of adventure and exploration on American soil.”
