Alex Yee shines at the Valencia Half Marathon and aims for the 2025 Marathon

The Olympic triathlon champion surprised everyone again this Sunday on the streets of Valencia. Alex Yee, 27 years old, completed the Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Half Marathon 2025 with a record of 1:01:30, which earned him the 19th overall position in one of the fastest tests in the world.

This result reinforces his ambitious project of transition to long-distance athletics, where next December 7 will take the exit at the Valencia Marathon with the aim of improving the 2:11:08 achieved in their London debut at the beginning of the year.

A firm step towards his second marathon

Yee maintained a controlled and consistent pace from the start: he spent the 10 kilometers in 28:45, 15 km in 43: 24 and 20 km in 58: 22, crossing the finish line at an average pace of 2: 54 min / km.

The winner of the test was the Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha, with a spectacular 58:02, on an ideal day for running, with mild temperatures and hardly any wind.

The Briton shared part of the route with the Australian Jimmy Whelan (1:01:37), a former professional cyclist who has also made the jump to triathlon, reinforcing that bridge between disciplines that more and more athletes are exploring.

Elite training looking ahead to December

Since his time in London, Yee has alternated appearances in triathlon - such as his victory in Supertri Toronto and the ninth place in the WTCS French Riviera— with a block of work focused exclusively on running.

Under the supervision of his team and alongside the marathoner Phil Sesemann (2:07:16 in Amsterdam), the Briton has fine-tuned his preparation with a focus more on stride economy and sustained endurance.

According to current projections, it could approach the 2h08 ' in Valencia, a leap in quality that would place him among the best British long-distance runners of the moment.

An athlete who breaks the mold

What he is doing Alex Yee It's rare. Few Olympic triathlon champions have managed to translate their performance to pure athletics with such ease. His technique, analytical mindset, and ability to maintain speed over long distances make him unique.

At 27, he combines international experience with a hunger for growth, without completely giving up on triathlon, but exploring new frontiers on the road.

The best British triathlete of his generation

Yee, a double Olympic champion and 2024 WTCS world champion, seems determined to follow in the footsteps of great legends who transcended their discipline. His next challenge will be Valencia Marathon, where he will try to stop the clock below two hours and ten minutes.

If he succeeds, he will not only confirm his talent, but also open a new chapter in the history of British sport.
