Alistair Brownlee faces Patagonman 2025 amidst a sporting resurgence

Just over a year after announcing his retirement from professional triathlon, Alistair Brownlee It continues to demonstrate that competitiveness is part of its DNA.

The Briton, a two-time Olympic champion (2012 and 2016), two-time world champion, and four-time European champion, has thrown himself headlong into endurance challenges he couldn't previously afford. And the next one is a major one: Patagonman 2025, one of the most extreme triathlons on the planet.

A year full of challenges outside the professional circuit

Since his retirement, Brownlee hasn't slowed down for a day. In October, he participated in the Empire State Building Run-UpA challenge to climb 1.576 steps to the 86th floor of the iconic New York skyscraper. There he finished 7th with a time of 12:28, enjoying the atmosphere without the pressure of competing as a professional.

A few days later he traveled to South Africa for the Nedbank Gravel BurnA seven-stage, 800km adventure crossing coastal forests and the Great Karoo desert. He finished 23rd with a cumulative time of 21 hours and 26 minutes, ahead of elite athletes such as thomas pidcock o Cameron Wurf, confirming that he remains a born competitor.

As he himself explained, it was a “very appropriate” test: long days, incredible terrain and plenty of time to think about why he still enjoys pushing himself.

Patagonman: a triathlon as beautiful as it is wild

This Sunday, December 7th, Brownlee will face the Patagonman Xtreme TriathlonCreated in 2018 with the support of the Norseman organizers, the race is a distance Ironman, It is held in Aysén (Chilean Patagonia) and is known for its ruggedness and unique scenery.

The day begins at dawn, at 5:00, when the triathletes jump from a ferry into the frozen Pacific fjord to cover the 3,8 km of swimming to the port of Chacabuco.

From there, they face 180 km of cycling along the Carretera Austral, a windy route full of altitude changes, with some 2.500 elevation meters positive. T2 is located in Villa Cerro Castillo, one of the most iconic landscapes in the region.

The final marathon runs along dirt paths beside the Ibáñez River, passing through forests, lakes and waterfalls, until reaching the General Carrera LakeAlong the route it is common to see wildlife: otters, sea lions, dolphins, seals, foxes, condors, eagles and even pumas.
