Pogačar's spectacular bike fetches over €163.000 in a historic auction

Cycling once again produced a figure that is difficult to comprehend, even for those who follow elite sports.

The custom bike that Tadej Pogacar used during the 16th stage of the 2024 Tour de France has reached $190.500 (approximately 163.719 euros) in an auction held by Sotheby's, multiplying by more than ten the usual price of this model in store.

La Colnago Y1Rs Raw CarbonCreated specifically for the world champion, the helmet had generated attention since its first public appearance. Its exposed carbon design and rainbow-colored details made it a unique piece from both an aesthetic and technical point of view.

This version included modifications applied throughout the Tour, especially during the rest day, before its final debut on the way to Mont Ventoux.

A collector's item with a history

The new owner of the bike not only acquires an exclusive item, but also an important part of the Slovenian champion's recent journey. Why is this of such interest to triathletes?

For triathletes who are into gear—and there are many—this auction brings a classic debate back to the forefront: How much does the difference between a top-of-the-range bike and the rest really cost?

Pogačar's Y1Rs shows how brands apply technologies used in professional cycling that later make their way to triathlon: total integration, optimized rigidity, aerodynamic improvements and a design focused on delivering performance without sacrificing aesthetics.

Although the auction price is an exception, interest in the equipment continues to grow among cyclists and triathletes looking to fine-tune every detail of their machine.

It's not the most expensive bike in history

Despite the sum paid by Colnago, it is still far from the absolute record. The legendary Trek Madone “Butterfly” that lance Armstrong He used it in the Tour de France, he reached $500.000 at a charity auction.

Even so, Pogačar's Y1Rs ranks among the most highly valued ever sold and confirms the Slovenian's magnetism on and off the road.
