The 2026 Triathlon World Championship returns to Pontevedra

World Triathlon has officially confirmed that Pontevedra will be the headquarters of the 2026 Triathlon World Championship Finals, an event that will bring together the best athletes on the planet in all categories.

The appointment will be held from 23 of the septiembre 27 of 2026, turning the Galician city into the world epicenter of triathlon.

A week of triathlon at all levels

For five days, Pontevedra will vibrate with competitions that will crown the world champions in Elite, U23, Junior, Paratriathlon and Age Groups in sprint and standard distances.

The World Championships will also be held aquabike and mixed relay in junior, U23, paratriathlon and age groups.

A city with history and passion for triathlon

The President of World Triathlon, Antonio Arimany, highlighted that Pontevedra “is the hometown of Javier Gómez Noya, five-time world champion, and a place that has always demonstrated its passion for this sport.”

The city has already hosted the 2019 Multisport World Cup, the 2023 Finals, and the 2025 Multisport Championship, establishing itself as a benchmark for organizing major international events.

Local pride and commitment

The mayor of Pontevedra, Miguel Anxo Lores, assured that they will do “everything possible to make this edition the best final in history.”

For his part, the president of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, José Hidalgo, noted that this appointment "strengthens the unique relationship between Pontevedra and triathlon, and will allow us to once again show the world Spain's commitment to our sport."

Spain thus adds another great event in the calendar world after the success of Torremolinos 2024, which brought together more than 4.000 triathletes from 60 countries.

In 2025, the grand final will be held in Wollongong, Australia, before returning to Galicia in 2026.

  • Wednesday 23 September: Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremony
  • Thursday 24 September: junior (women and men), age group sprint
  • Friday 25 September: paratriathlon, U23 women and men
  • Saturday September 26: standard age groups, aquabike, elite women
  • Sunday 27 September: mixed relays (junior/U23, paratriathlon and GE), elite men and closing ceremony
