This weekend, the WTCS French Riviera 2025 will experience its first edition in Fréjus, and it will do so with a high-level duel.
The current world champion and Olympic champion, Cassandre Beaugrand, arrives with the obligation to reduce the 435 points that separate her from the leader of the ranking, the British Beth Potter.
The setting couldn't be more special: Beaugrand grew up in Antibes, just 50 km from the venue, and knows every corner of the French Riviera. The French public is hoping for a stellar performance to keep the title defense alive.
Beth Potter defends world leadership
Scottish Beth Potter, world champion in 2023, arrives as provisional leader with 1.885 points.
Her consistency and strength on the run make her Beaugrand's most dangerous competitor. A gold medal in Fréjus could boost her score to 2.780 points and solidify her title bid.
Leonie Periault wants to repeat the feat of Hamburg
Another French woman who promises to put on a show is Leonie Periault, the recent champion in Hamburg. Her impressive run placed her second in the provisional standings, and competing on home soil gives her even more confidence.
With 1000 points from that victory and solid results in Alghero and Abu Dhabi, Periault is emerging as the great alternative.
Lisa Tertsch and Jeanne Lehair, candidates for the title
We must not forget Lisa Tertsch, who opened the year with a victory in Abu Dhabi and maintains a real chance of winning the championship.
Neither to Jeanne Lehair, the Yokohama champion, who arrives on a high note after shining in the Super Tri format in Chicago. Both know that scoring high in Fréjus is key to having a chance at Karlovy Vary and Weihai.
A red-hot season finale
The 2025 season has an unusual format: only the three best results, plus the grand final in Wollongong, will count toward determining the world champion.
That makes each race a do-or-die affair. After the French Riviera, Karlovy Vary and Weihai arrive in just four weeks, three events that will determine who is crowned world champion.
Schedules and how to see it live
The women's action in Fréjus will be held on Sunday, August 31 at 16:30 p.m. (Spanish time) and can be followed live via Triathlon Live.tv.
